The Planetary Defence Battalion for Golus/Miazan is named for Aldeed Golus, the Imperial Scout who explored the planet Golus. The battalion has extensive operational experience in the deep deserts of Golus, and companies of the 1st Aldeed Golus Scout Battalion are often called upon to provide desert survival training for other units.
Anghorn
The Anghorn are a quadrupedal insectoid species that evolved from Trappers on a Low Gravity planet. Each of an Anghorn’s limbs is equipped with two prehensile toes and a reverse facing gripping spur. A set of four eyes spaced across the frontal arc of the head gives the Anghorn nearly 180 degrees of vision. Anghorn eyes see well into the infra-red but are sensitive to yellow and white light. An overlapping chitinous exoskeleton provides bodily protection and functions as a limited pressure suit. Twin spinerettes at the base of the abdomen allow the Anghorn to produce long, light and very strong thread-like protein chains which are used for nets, traps, shelters and climbing equipment. Anghorn communicate through a complex pattern of percussive noises. These are made by tapping out sounds with a set of hammer mandibles on a natural fold of drum skin held taught beneath the Anghorn’s mouth by a larger pair of mandibles.
The Anghorn evolved on a small world or moon somewhere in the RimWorlds or along the Whisp Route, but the location of their homeworld is no longer known, nor is it known how long ago they moved into space. Their ships have been recorded in the RimWorlds for nearly two thousand years, coming and going as they wish and paying little heed to the rise and fall of polities.
Anghorn starships are immense, disperse structured vessels; the labyrinthine and dimly lit access ways filled with cloying web-like tendrils spun by the inhabitants. Anghorn ships will occasionally trade rare earth metals for items such as salt and water, though they are believed to recover most of the volatiles they require from Oort cloud bodies and deep space wanderers.
The most commonly encountered of the percussive languages or dialects used by the Anghorn is Frat'k.
A.F.T.

Name given to the attempted coup by Interior Minister Phorgan sa Vaspran against the government of Siridar-Count Count Sakkan III of Bromus in 1109. As Interior Minister, Phorgan sa Vaspran had of control of the Interior Ministry’s Security Force – known as the Bishmestu. Bishmestu is a Bromosian word meaning “big boots” or “clodhoppers” and refers to the heavy boots worn by the Security Force personnel. As Head of the shadowy Committee for Public Safety, sa Vaspran re-equipped the Bishmestu with smuggled High Tech weaponry as well as drew upon support from the People's Justice Army of Kamperel in an effort to overthrow Count Sakkan's government and topple House Mahuran. A rag-tag collection of free traders, trapped at Bromus Downport as the coup began, chose to support Count Sakkan and helped crush the revolt.

Imperial settlement in Cabria Subsector has been limited to two systems just on the trailing edge of the subsector, and administered by the Duchy of Miazan/Miazan Subsector. The several petty Interstellar states known to exist in the Cabria Subsector are sometimes aligned with the Outrim Alliance though, more often than not, pursue their own policies.
Cabria subsector contains twenty-seven worlds with a total population of 13.198 billion sophonts. The highest population, 9, is at Par Vera, Yuar and Gaidon, and the highest Tech Level, E, is at Par Vera.

A famous alcoholic beverage brewed on Celephais/Miazan, it is characterised by its dark amber-black colour, its thick texture, and its strong, malty taste.
Civil War
A period of internecine conflict in the RimWorlds Sector brought about by the loss of authority and prestige of House Venuraski and their cousins, House Zenartoria. Actually fighting between the various factions continued from 602 until Morthar I Moranth’s final victory in 610.
Dentian I Venuraski succeeded Kolin II as Sector Duke upon the latter’s death at the Battle of Gorth in 557. Having won the 1st Rimward War, House Venuraski proceeded to lose the peace as Dentian attempted to enhance his own power and prestige by extending emergency powers granted for the duration of the war.
By 590 Dentian had completely alienated most of the Houses Major and planetary governments of the Sector. The Emperor was petitioned directly and in 594 Dentian was forced to abdicate in favour of his cousin Frederich Zenartoria of Heriem/Thurgandarn. Discontent continued to grow, however, as Sector Duke Frederich failed to roll back Dentian’s Edicts, nor address other abuses that had plagued the closing years of Dentian’s reign.
By 602 most of the few Imperial Navy units still stationed in the RimWorlds Sector had been withdrawn to the Spinward March and the 1st Frontier War with the Zhodani. This left behind the faction-ridden Subsector navies and the Sector Duchy on the brink of Civil War.
Fighting broke out in Nolgor Subsector between the Zenatoria dominated Nolgor Subsector Navy and House Ulanor, Siridar-Counts of Nolgor. Initially, the Nolgor Planetary Navy suffered heavy losses, but the tenacious resistance led by Siridar-Count Alban caught Admiral Stefan Zenatoria by surprise. With support from Naos VI and the House Tressuiir Dukes of Gamelea, the Ulanorian forces smashed the Zenatorians in battles at Nikon/Nolgor and Kalath/Gamelea.
Sector-Duke Frederich was assassinated on 021-603 and was succeeded by his nephew Dentian II. Fighting now spread across the Sector with the bulk of the Rimward Subsectors allied against the Zenartorians. Dentian’s forces held Gazolan, Berimar’s Sceptre and part of Thurgandarn Subsectors, while Venuraski Loyalists held out in Kaorin Subsector, Riinu Subsector and the Coreward-Spinward portion of Thurgandarn Subsector. In Daltharmai Subsector Morthar Maranth, Siridar-Duke of Daltharmai, swept all opposition before him but suffered a major defeat at Thiroor/Gazolan.
In 608, after five years of mixed fortunes, the Rimward subsectors finally threw their support behind Siridar-Duke Morthar of Daltharmai. The Venuraski were put down and the Zenartorians driven back. With the loss of Berimar’s Sceptre Subsector in 609, Sector-Duke Dentian II lost his last supply line to the Spinward March. Besieged on Heriem/Thurgandarn in late 609, Dentian was killed during the ground assault in 610.
With his death, Morthar Maranth was elected Sector-Duke by the acclamation of his troops and went on to reign for a further twenty-two years.

Eanzhshent Geithurebr Epliavlefr
The Eanzhshent Geithurebr Epliavlefr, or Republic of Geithur Naval Force, is the Navy of the Geithurian Republic. It consists of 1414 ships, crewed by 503,105 personnel, with a total tonnage of 63,240,000 dtons. 19,004 Marines are deployed as Ship's Troops, drawn from 9th (Marine) Division, as well as 34,630 Navy Security personnel. The Geithurian Republic has a Navy budget of TCr14.222 The bulk of the shipbuilding for the Navy passes through the Tech Level 12 yards of Appaer.
The Eanzhshent Geithurebr Epliavlefr currently favors a tactical doctrine of Battleriders over Battleships in potential conflicts with the Imperium. With a maximum native technology level of 12, Republican planners believe that inefficiencies in Drive technology can be addressed by building Navy Combat Groups around several massive Carriers and their attendant Riders. Recently, in a effort to close the technology gap with the Imperium, the EGE has acquired a squadron of TL14 Carriers and Battleriders from the Hand of Ssra'Ka Aissr - a Tsalur-dominated polity in the Entorth Subsector, spinward of the Geithurian Republic.
The EGE has four main bases: Geithur (0202), Lysarnor (0302), Vermorzol (0304) and Dysa Metharoth (0601). Patrol Stations are maintained at Hiona (0206), Fiona (0602) and Jul'ni (0505). An unofficial Fleet Station is maintained in the Appaer system (0305).

A constellation of six stars near the centre of the Gamelea Subsector which includes the technological and political capital of the subsector, Gamelea - a rosette system of unknown origin.
Gamelea Subsector
A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'K' position on Imperial sector maps. Gamelea Subsector has borne the brunt of the four Outrim Wars against the Outrim Alliance, as well as a brief war with Kalar-Wi. But for the technological heft and wealth of the subsector capital, Gamelea, most of the subsector would have been lost.
The Gamelea subsector contains seventeen worlds with a total population of 142.717 billion sophonts. The highest population, A, is at Gamelea and Bryak, and the highest Tech Level, F, is at Julnar and Gamelea.
Gamerga Brewing Company

Gazolan Subsector
A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'G' position on Imperial sector maps. One of the more stable subsectors of the Imperial Rimworlds Sector, Gazolan suffered during the Sarkul Wars as the Sector Admirals manoeuvred against each other. House Hendrian of Thiroor/Gazolan began its rise under the Trumer Sector Dukes in the 10th Century and were instrumental in the successful conclusion of the 4th Outrim War of 1080 - 1085. This lead to the bestowing of the Sector Duchy upon Akansair Hendrian by Imperial Edict in 1097.
Gazul Subsector
A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'P' position on Imperial sector maps. Sector Duke Kolin II forced his way into the Gazul Subsector in the mid 6th Century and control of the subsector swayed back and forth between the over-stretched Sector Fleet and the badly organised Rimward Coalition for the next three centuries.
The Gazul subsector contains twenty-six worlds with a total population of 68.9389 billion sophonts. The highest population, A, is at Dathyna, and the highest Tech Level, D, is at Axal, Gazul and Xudar.

Non-human Minor Races (Aaronites of Lysarnor and Tharoysa of Dysa Metharoth, plus smaller racial groups) make up about 0.7% of the total population.
While supposedly a democratic alliance, in reality the Council of the Geithurian Republic has been dominated by the Edlchtel Clan, hereditary Konzevrs of Appaer and Presidents of the Republic, for the last two centuries. Of Zhodani origin, the Edlchtels have driven the Outrim Alliance's opposition to Imperial expansion into Lymethius Subsector.
A member state of the Outrim Alliance, the Geithurian Republic has taken part in four wars against the Imperium. Following the defeat that ended the 4th Outrim War in 1085 and the fall from power of Konzevr Zdiea Edlchtel, President of the Republic, the Republic has suffered from a series of internal political crises as various separatist movements have grown up on various member worlds. This has resulted in a certain degree of political paralysis and a softening of the Republic’s hard-line anti-Imperium stance.
Khasikha, a Vilani dialect, is spoken as a native language by the inhabitants of Appaer/Lymethius and was subsequently adopted as the official language of the Geithurian Republic.
The Geithurian Republic often deploys multi-race mercenary formations as part of their Ground Force Command. These formations are known as Murkhida Kargesu, or "Alien Legions".
Golus, Aldeed
Aldeed Golus (782 - 835), Imperial Interstellar Scout Service, spent most of his service career in the field, exploring and surveying systems in Miazan Subsector. He was Chief Scout on the four missions to the Graffias system in the early 800's, and led the contact mission to the Olkathi, a Humanoid Minor Race native to Graffias VI, in 822.
Mustering out of the Scout Service in 824, Aldeed retired to Graffias VI, now known as Golus in his honour. He died in a sandstorm in the Deep Desert in 835. The planetary Defence Battalion is known as the 1st Aldeen Golus Scout Battalion.

Halluce
Fibrous extract from a small cactus-like plant found amongst the rocky outcrops of the deserts of Anubis/Gazul. When dried, the extract becomes leathery and is chewed to release the hallucinogenic alkaloids that are concentrated by the drying process.

Houses Major and Houses Minor
Siridar-Barons of Exxilon/Miazan and the Exxilon System. Exxilon is a large, high gravity world, colonised in 969, just after the 2nd Outrim War. It was used as a dumping ground for displaced populations during the late war.
Exxilon lies within the County of Bromus, and even though Morwen hault-Asheranon married Piero Mahuran of Bromus in the 960's, relations between House Asheranon of Exxilon and House Mahuran of Bromus, their feudal overlords, are strained.
Aryon hault-Asheranon served on Duke Chi'leur I of Miazan's staff for over twenty years following the establishment of Miazan Subsector. When the planning began to open Exxilon up for colonization, Aryon, his son Clyn, and daughter Morwen, were heavily involved in fitting out the expedition. It was during the reign of Chi'leur's son, Duke Mah'radys I, and following the death of Aryon hault-Asheranon, that the settlement of Exxilon began, and Mah'radys I raised House Asheranon to House Major status by confirming them as Siridar-Barons of Exxilon.
Once installed as Siridar-Baron, Sir Clyn Asheranon soon gained a reputation for his hard, yet indifferent rule. The Asheranons insulated themselves from their subjects behind an oppressive Law Level and and Impersonal Bureaucracy. While the bulk of the population of half a billion live in a string of cities, high up in the mountains of the small continent of Parishnaman, House Asheranon and its retainers are based on a large, geostationary satellite. It is rare for a member of the Household to "go down the well".
House Asheranon Family Tree
House Rank
House Asheranon are Siridar-Barons. They rule Exxilon/Miazan and the Exxilon system.
Head of the Household
House Asheranon practice Absolute Primogeniture. The eldest child inherits, irrespective of sex. The current head of the Household is Padarn II. Padarn II is also the Patriarch of House Asheranon. Padarn II is Old and Cunning.
Prior Service of the Title Holder
Padarn II served as a Colonel in the Baronial Household Force of Exxilon - a TL12 elite formation - under his father, Aryon III.
Moral Stance of the House
House Asheranon is Law abiding.
Influence
House Asheranon's Influence is Scant (2).
Holdings
House Asheranon posses Modest Holdings, generating Cr700,000 for the family per annum. This is in addition to Siridar-Baron Padarn II's personal Holdings.
House Size
House Asheranon is a large family with 16 directly related members.
Recent House Activity
A member of House Asheranon participated in a duel, and lost. This person was Aryon, eldest son and heir of Padarn II. Aryon has been sent over the Imperial Border as a member of an Exxilonian Trade delegation to the Outrim, until such time as the political dust settles.
Current House Goal
Boost local defenses in the Exxilon system by acquiring an SDB flotilla.
House Scandal
House Asheranon supports an unregistered Mercenary Company. This Company has been hired out to the Kalar-Wi government of Gaidon to help suppress an uprising by the Kiang, natives of that planet.
While House Asheranon is not particularly wealthy, and has little influence on the Subsector stage, they are firmly entrenched in the Exxilon System. The Patriarch of the family, Padarn II, has been Siridar-Baron since the death of his father, Aryon III, in 1085. His extended family consists of sixteen members, most of whom hold senior positions within the governing bureaucracy of the planet.
While generally law-abiding, House Asheranon maintains an unregistered Mercenary Company in direct violation of Imperial Law. Raised during the 4th Outrim War to support the defenses of Exxilon, House Asheranon retained the unit in being after the war. Currently, the unit is under hire to the Kalar-Wi government of Gaidon. House Asheranon is concerned about the exposed position of the Exxilon system and aims to raise a System Defense Boat Flotilla to strengthen their defenses.
Padarn II's eldest son, Aryon, has proved to be a bit of a disappointment. A Captain in the Unified Imperial Army, Aryon became involved in a duel with another young officer. Before Aryon could be cashiered, his father Padarn managed to have him assigned to lead an Exxilonian trade mission into the Outrim.

Siridar-Dukes of Gamelea/Gamelea, Dukes of Gamelea Subsector. Lectorl Zarquestuir married Justino Crensea, daughter of Sector Duke Liarb II, in 799 and in 809 House Zarquestuir was elevated to House Major status and Lectorl became Duke Lectorl upon the death of Arkori VI, last House Tressuiir Duke of Gamelea. Duke Adryos Urzov II united House Zarquestuir with their greatest rivals, House Juharl, in 960, and the united House Major has ruled Gamelea Subsector ever since.
House Mahuran: Siridar-Counts of Bromus/Miazan and the Bromus System. House Mahuran have been Siridar-Counts of Bromus for two hundred years, owing their elevation to House Major status to Sector Duke Leonid I Trumer. Siridar-Count Sakkan III, the current incumbent, also holds the title of President for Life and is actively involved in the day to day running of the government of Bromus. Sakkan III is the nephew of Baroness Elemyl Mahuran, the wife of Duke Mah'radys IV of Miazan. He is also the nephew of Stefani Mahuran, Dowager Duchess of Gamelea. These two formidable women were the sisters of Sakkan's late father, Siridar-Count Giovhani II Mahuran.
House Rivokul - extinct: Siridar-Barons of Kamperel/Miazan from the mid-tenth century until 1032. Retainers of the House Geyukthi Dukes of Miazan Subsector, the Siridar-Barons Rivokul were notoriously corrupt, ruling their poor, crowded world with an iron hand. With arms supplied by the Outrim Alliance during the 3rd Outrim War, the People's Justice Army waged a bitter civil war against House Rivokul and its mercenaries. Victorious, the People's Justice Army summarily executed all surviving members of the House.
House Tressuiir - extinct: Siridar-Counts of Gamelea/Gamelea, Siridar-Dukes of Gamelea/Gamelea, Dukes of Gamelea Subsector. Established as Lords-Protector of the Gamelea March by Sector Duke Dentian I in 572, House Tressuiir remained Dukes of Gamelea until the death of Arkori VI in 809, upon which both the senior and junior branches of the House became extinct.
H'ran
An aggressive bipedal reptilian race, raised to sentience under the Thongaloros Empire, the H'ran served as ground forces and shipboard marines for the Empire. During the collapse of the Thongaloros Empire, the H’ran secured sufficient interstellar shipping to extend their sway over several systems in the Aemilor Subsector.
While militarily successful, the H’ran State lacked the industrial base to construct its own starships and was on the verge of collapse when it overran the Gherlach, a much less aggressive but technology-savvy reptilian race. With the assistance of the Gherlach, the H'ran have
remained the dominant species in the Klarthur Confederacy.
Huiha Esoyatre
Huiha Esoyatre is an Aslan polity of five non-Imperial systems in the Lymethius subsector. Consisting of the four systems of the Yuakteisye Cluster (Yuwe, Atlasiykh, Faiwawhwe, and Yuakteisye) as well as the former Kalar-Wi system of Kidan (annexed in 1106 in the aftermath of the Kalar-Wi War and now known as Yaitlaorail), Huiha Esoyatre has a total population of 85.0136 billion sophonts, 99.9% of whom are Aslan. As one of the major polities in the Outrim Alliance, Huiha Esoyatre has been involved in four wars with the Imperium as the Alliance has resisted Imperial inroads into the Lymethius subsector.
E'kho Hleahayaou dominates the polity from their capital of Hyufteirleryeweiwiy (tr. "the place where the people meet by the swirling spire") in the crater Yuwaol ("great basin") in the northern hemisphere of Yuwe (0408). From this, their ancestral seat, E'kho Hleahayaou has been the most senior family within the Esoyatre Clan for most of the last 700 years. The current Hleahayaouko is Tlehiui V (born 1030), a venerable leader who is still fit and active, having guided the Huiha for over fify years.
Clan Esoyatre leads an alliance of eight clans. The other seven vassal clans that make up the alliance are: Huiha Uahwil, Huiha Aiaihfa, Huiha Hwouwoahiw, Huiha I'iyheas, Huiha Eakteaei, Huiha Awuahra, and Huiha Htualraluikh. Of the five systems that form the hasoi of Huiha Esoyatre only Yuakteisye has anything like a breathable atmosphere and it is on this world that the bulk of the population of the Huiha are concentrated.
The following table shows the relationships of the various E'khos that make up the member Huihas of Huiha Esoyatre. It also shows the number of E'kho members, vassals and retainers that are contributed to the armed forces of the Huihas, and who crew the Huiha fleets and form the Trekhyair – “land protector” clan military force:

Huiha Khysokhou
Huiha Khysokhou is a polity of five non-Imperial systems lying across the spinward border of the Cabria subsector and extending into the trailing part of Entorth subsector. The total population of 645.6 million consists almost exclusively of Aslan.
While a member state of the Outrim Alliance, Huiha Khysokhou did not take part in the 4th Outrim War.
Huiha Weakhayuwikhye
Huiha Weakhayuwikhye is one of the dominant powers in the Rimward Coalition. From Ftaioiaftew/Gazul, settled in 323, the Huiha has resisted Imperial expansion into the Gazul Subsector. Following defeat and disarmament at the end of the 2nd Rimward War in 794, Huiha Weakhayuwikhye waged a secret corsair war against Imperial shipping in the Gazul and Miazan Subsectors until the 3rd Rimward War of 882 forced the Imperial border coreward from their world.
Hunt of Rronurl
The Hunt of Rronurl is a Vargr-dominated interstellar polity that controls the six worlds of the Suarya Cluster lying to Spinward/Rimward of the Imperial dominated Miazan subsector in the Cabria and Kfukskho subsectors.
As Vargr-dominated states go, the Hunt of Rronurl has been remarkably stable, having achieved its current size during the early 800’s under the leadership of Rronurl, the original Huntleader. Its unity has been maintained under a series of charismatic Huntleaders, supported by able bureaucracies on most of its member worlds. The current Huntleader, Gvero II, achieved dominance over his uncle Gvero I in the aftermath of the failures of the Hunt’s forces during the Fourth Outrim War of 1080 – 85.
In 1097 Aerknir saedz Ngaen seized control of Akhvooel as a popular dictator. A highly charismatic military commander during the Fourth Outrim War, he found the government of Akhvooel complacent and lacking in charisma upon his return from the front in 1085. A supporter of Huntleader Gvero II, Aerknir’s coup was supported by Hunt military units as well as a sizeable percentage of the population of Akhvooel. Since that time, the government of Akhvooel under Aerknir has been firmly aligned to that of Suarya, capital of the Hunt and homeworld of Huntleader Gvero II.
Imperial Army
Common name applied to the Unified Imperial Army. Formations are raised at the Subsector level from member worlds, trained and equipped to a consistant level, and commanded and deployed at the Sector Level.
Imperial Basic
The main spoken and written language of the Imperium, derived from Solomani Basic with Imperial Vilani loan words and grammatical borrowings. Due to the vast expanse of the Imperium, Imperial Basic has devolved into several regional dialects, each with a distinct accent, though all mutually understandable.
297th Imperial Fleet
297th Imperial Fleet is stationed in Gamelea Subsector. It has 998 ships assigned to it, crewed by 598,515 personnel, with a total tonnage of 48,075,000 tons. 3180 Marines are deployed as Ship's Troops, drawn from 351st Marine Division, as well as 37,845 Navy Security personnel. The Duchy of Gamelea has a population of 142.687 billion sophonts. Out of a Navy Budget of approximately TCr28.85, Gamelea Subsector contributes TCr10.119 to support and sustain 297th Imperial Fleet.
There are five Naval Bases in Gamelea Subsector: - Gamelea (0508), Feor (0407), Varch (0108), Canblyne (0705), and Ventura (0607). There is also a Naval Base at Anar (Lymethius 0805) and a patrol station at Findual (Lymethius 0802).
The senior Navy Command Officers are as follows:
Gamelea/Gamelea

Pietr Jarzeroon was killed during the Kamperelian invasion of Florana in 1084 and Sarmadal, and his sons Isan and Horka, re-established Jarzeroon Petrochem as a Golus-based corporation.
Johdari
Johdari are a humanoid Minor Race descended from nocturnal arboreal Omnivore/Hunter stock and are native to the planet Johunshhizair/Entorth A-886883-C.
Johdari are warm-blooded, have two genders and are egg-layers. Of Medium Build, though smaller and slighter than humans, they possess bilateral symmetary; have a pair of arms ending in two-fingered hands; and a pair of legs ending in a two-prehensile toed foot with an apposable gripping spur. They are Fast, moving at 9m, Natural Climbers with Notable Dexterity (2d6+1), and posses a prehensile tail. Built for short, quick chases, they soon tire, having a Weak Endurance (2d6-1). Razor sharp teeth (Natural Weapon – Teeth) and Low Light Vision enabled primative Johdari to dominate the jungles of Johunshhizair, traits that their star-faring descendants still posses.
Maturing at Age 18, Johdari start aging around Age 38 (5 terms) and then slowly (DM+1 to aging rolls). All Johdari benefit from their government’s advanced education system and have Notable Education (2d6+1).
Skin colour ranges from dark brown to jet black and the skin is covered with a fine, downy, fur of a similar colour.
Johdari Association
Johdari-dominated Interstellar polity located in Entorth Subsector and a member-state of the Outrim Alliance. Capital of the Association is the Johdari homeworld, Johunshhizair/Entorth A-886883-C.
Julnar Cybernetics Inc
Julnar Cybernetics is a large megacorporation based on Julnar/Gamelea and specialising in the manufacture of Tech 15 ‘droids, robotics and cybernetics. Uniquely, perhaps, for a planetary government-owned corporation, Julnar Cybernetics has proven to be both nimble and adept at reading its market and vigorously expanding its market share.
Alarmed by the growth in power of Kalar-Wi after the Klorin Asteroid War of 1022, Julnar Cybernetics, in partnership with Ventura Arms Technum, and with the tacit approval of the Julnar System government, began building up a powerful corporate Special Weapons and Tactics Company. It is believed that this unit was instrumental in bringing the Rivokul War on Kamperel/Miazan to an end in 1032 by assisting the People's Justice Army bring down the despotic House Rivokul. In the wide spread rebuilding following the 4th Outrim War (1080 – 85), Julnar Cybernetics secured several lucrative subsector-wide contracts and has successfully built upon them.
Varess S'sluru is the current President of Julnar Cybernetics, though the powerful Government Select Committee on Corporate Affairs, Governance, and Expenditure keeps a close watch on corporate policy.
Julnar Reach
The Julnar Reach is a Main of ten systems running from Leminkainen, in Gamelea Subsector, to Giirmuum, in Gazolan Subsector. High tech Julnar, a water world and homeworld of the amphibious Julnari, and rich Giirmuum dominate the Main economically. Kerak has been largely abandoned and Tulvan, Zekhipkuka and Karpathurnal have all suffered severe economic recession since the Odinite mines closed in the mid 1070s.
Jumpball
A ball game played between two teams of players and popular across the Rimward subsectors of the RimWorlds. While there are superficial rules differences between various leagues, the Kamperelian and Miazan Code is most popular amongst holovid fans for its speed of play.
Jump Zone
A controlled area of space specifically assigned for starships to transit to and from Jump Space. By convention, in-bound starships transit through the system zenith while out-bound starships transit through the system nadir, thus reducing the possibility of encountering hazards orbiting the parent star along the plane of the ecliptic.
The Kalar-Wi
The Kalar-Wi are a humanoid species native to the planet Kalar-Wi/Gamelea and are characterised by blue skin, green hair and a strong martial culture. Following the fall of the Thongaloros Empire, Kalar-Wi was wracked by several centuries of bitter wars as various cultural groups sought to gain planetary, and then system, dominance. By the conclusion of these consolidation wars, which went nuclear at least twice, Kalar-Wi was controlled by the Savouur - Jaasouss Moieties, from the eastern part of the northern hemisphere, under the iron rule of Malathu’kal Sourka Afghar.
The Savouur Moiety is characterised by an aggressive, expansionistic outlook. The moiety Patriarch is titled Afghar which, while usually translated as “Warlord”, has implications of “Tower”, “Defender” and “one who strikes”. Malathu’kal Sourka, the great Warlord of the Savouur and the first Warlord of the Kalar-Wi, remains a popular figure in modern Kalar-Wi society as he embodied the prized Kalar-Wi attributes of courage, boldness, honour and resourcefulness. The annual festival of Puranthea Malathu celebrates his life and achievements and reminds the Kalar-Wi of the attributes they should cultivate in their own lives. The Jaasouss Moiety is characterised by an analytical, diplomatic and manipulative outlook and while the Jaasouss Matriarch’s title of Delhanaghar is usually translated as “Peacelord”, it has implications of “webspinner”, “patient waiter” and “unexpected”. While the attributes of long range planning, patience and persistence are generally agreed to be worth cultivating, Kalar-Wi culture prefers action to passivity. Interestingly, the Peacelord, in Kalar-Wi popular culture, is usually a sinister character who wins in the long game. There is no festival celebrating the life of any of the Jaasouss Peacelords, and most Kalar-Wi would be hard pressed to name even one of the current Peacelord’s predecessors.
The Kalar-Wi gained Jump Drive technology after the conclusion of their planetary Consolidation Wars. It is likely that Mi’yargin or Danshihabi traders passed through the Kalar-Wi system during the early 5th Century, Imperial Reckoning while the Savouur-Jaasouss Moieties were rebuilding their shattered economy and ecosystem and developing their dual rulership. Both the Mi’yargin and the Danshihabi were willing to trade technology with the relatively insular Kalar-Wi to boot-strap the latter to the point where they began to spread out through the Kalar-Wi Cluster.
Initial clashes with the Huiha Esoyatre and then with the Geithurian Republic pushed the Kalar-Wi to Trailing where they soon encountered the advancing Imperium. Sensing the potential power behind the Imperial Scouts and explorers, the Kalar-Wi aligned themselves with first the House Tressuiir and then with the House Juharl-Zarquestuir Dukes of Gamelea Subsector, providing ships and auxiliary ground troops for Ducal campaigns within the Subsector and against the Outrim Alliance during the Outrim Wars.
As the House Juharl-Zarquestuir Subsector Dukes became increasingly lethargic and corrupt, the Kalar-Wi expanded their sphere of influence under a series of aggressive Warlords, occupying Varch in Gamelea Subsector, and Gaidan and Yolurland in Cabria Subsector. It would appear that the long range plans of the Kalar-Wi Peacelords – the preservation of the Kalar-Wi State from destruction by more powerful interstellar polities by aligning themselves with the most powerful local polity; the Imperium and the Gamelea Subsector Dukes in particular – had been modified by a misunderstanding of Imperial politics on the part of the Kalar-Wi Warlords. While staunchly defending their section of the frontier during the 4th Outrim War, and winning the Battle of Anthorann, during the post-Outrim War economic decline in the Rimward Imperial Subsectors the Kalar-Wi felt obliged to step into the power vacuum that began to develop and, through a series of police actions, occupied Rimbaud II and Anthorann in Gamelea Subsector. Growing alarm at the Sector level was met with indifference at the Subsector level until Warlord Vran’kal Youka launched the ill-advised Kalar-Wi War of 1103 – 05.
Held up by fierce local resistance in the Gamelea Cluster, the Kalar-Wi fleet was decisively defeated by Imperial Naval units breaking out of the Naval Base at Gamelea. Reinforced by fleet elements from Gazolan and Nolgor Subsectors, local Imperial forces drove the Kalar-Wi out and took their homeworld, late in 1105.
Warlord Vran’kal Youka and the Savoour leadership had withdrawn to Loa-Wi as Imperial forces penetrated the Kalar-Wi system and it was Peacelord Har’vuun Kalusi and the Jaasouss Oligarchy who signed the surrender documents and welcomed the Imperial garrison. Behind the scenes, members of Duke Adryos Urzov IV of Gamelea’s cabinet were hurriedly blurring details of the surrender to permit the Kalar-Wi leadership to save face amongst their own people. Duke Adryos Urzov’s death in late 1105 allowed these negotiations to be successfully concluded during the accession celebrations for Kolin II Andralistain, his son and successor as Duke of Gamelea. While accused of being in the pockets of the Kalar-Wi, Adryos Urzov’s cabinet ministers were very conscious that, in Realpolitik terms, the Gamelea government stood in need of Kalar-Wi support in the event that the Outrim Alliance should launch a fifth attempt to roll back the Imperial border. While the opportunist land grab of the Kidan system by the Huiha Esoyatre, now renamed Yaithorail by the Huiha, was tolerated as an object lesson to the Kalar-Wi, it was quietly made very clear to the Aslan of the Huiha that any further advances into Kalar-Wi space would not be countenanced by the Imperium.
The Imperial garrison of Kalar-Wi has been steadily reduced since the signing of the peace treaty ending the war. It is estimated that the last Imperial garrison will evacuate Kalar-Wi in 1110 with the last system bases closed down in 1111. Kalar-Wi military phratries have started to parade again for the Puranthea Malathu festival and, it is believed, are actively recruiting on Kalar-Wi for the first time since the end of the war.
Kalar-Wi Cluster
The Kalar-Wi Cluster extends across the borders of the Gamelea, Lymethius and Cabria Subsectors. Kalar-Wi, the capital of the Kalar-Wi Pocket Empire and homeworld of the Kalar-Wi Minor Race, lies within Gamelea Subsector and was occupied by Imperial forces after the Kalar-Wi War of 1103 – 1105.
Kalar-Wi War
Conflict between the Imperium and the Kalar-Wi Polity that occurred between 1103-1105 and which resulted in the defeat of the Kalar-Wi and the occupation of the Kalar-Wi homeworld by Imperial Forces.
Kaluron Ceramics
A Ventura/Gamelea ceramics manufacturer and a subsidiary of Odinventox, Kaluron Ceramics produces both fine tableware under their Duureshoon imprint, as well as industrial ceramics for power plants and starship heat shields.
Kamperel Cluster
The Kamperel Cluster is a constellation that consists of the three systems of Kamperel, Floranna and Ektra in Miazan Subsector.
Kaorin Subsector
A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'C' position on Imperial sector maps. Once a stable frontier was established with the Klarthu Confederacy, out of Aemilor Subsector, in the late 690's, Kaorin Subsector enjoyed nearly a century and a half of peace and strong economic growth. Weathering the Sarkul Wars of the late 9th Century, Kaorin Subsector produced the ships and men that put Duke Leonid Trumer of Ulvar/Kaorin on the Sector Ducal throne in 906.
Keffhi
A thick, black, drink derived from the powdered beans of a mountain dwelling plant found on the planet Nikon/Nolgor. Sometimes served sweetened, or flavoured with spices, it is considered a breach of keffhi-drinking etiquette to otherwise adulterate the drink.
Keirshan Meirdani's
A bar and grill franchise, common across Miazan, Gamelea and Nolgor Subsectors and usually located at Class A or Class B Starports. In 1023, Patrok Galman, an account executive with advertising firm Rens-Tabon-Hewar, created the slightly roguish shugilii character Keirshan Meirdani for the Gamerga Brewing Company of Feor. Used as a company mascot, Keirshan Meirdani became associated with a particular type of working-sophant's bar and eatery. Gamerga Brewing saw the benefit of creating a standardised bar menu and decor so that no matter the location, patrons knew exactly what to expect from a Keirshan Meirdani's Bar and Grill.
Khekheawaoh
0109 Khekheawaoh/Cabria A-120676-C
Capital world of Huiha Khysokhou, a five system Aslan polity on the border of the Cabria and Entorth subsectors.
Klarthur Confederacy
A powerful grouping of non-Imperial interstellar polities taking its name from the Klarthur Nebula in Aemilor Subsector of the RimWorlds Sector. The Klarthur Confederacy controlled a number of systems in neighbouring Nantarn, Riinu and Daltharmai Subsectors when contacted by the Imperium in 526. A period of rising tensions was defused by the Treaty of Choraptur in 530 which defined the border between the Confederacy and the Imperium.
After a series of conflicts in Riinu Subsector in the 690's, the Klarthur Confederacy pushed Imperial forces back into Kaorin Subsector where a stable border was established. This Imperial setback is usually blamed upon Sector Duke Morthar III, but the brief Civil War at the beginning of the 7th Century had already weakened Imperial control in the Sector.
The dominant species in the Klarthur Confederacy is the H’ran, an aggressive bipedal reptilian race that were originally raised to sentience under the Thongaloros Empire. Serving as ground forces and shipboard marines for the Empire, the H’ran secured sufficient interstellar shipping during the collapse of the Thongaloros Empire to extend their sway over several systems in the Aemilor Subsector. The H’ran State was on the verge of collapse, as it lacked the industrial base to construct its own starships, when it overran the Gherlach, a much less aggressive but technology-savvy reptilian race.
The Gherlach were assimilated into the H’ran State as a servitor-technician caste but, soon, the Gherlach began to dominate the councils of the H’ran. In contact with The Talon of Dra'kken, an isolated clan of Tsalur that had survived the collapse of the Thongaloros Empire, the Gherlach methodically took over the actual running of the H'ran State. The Talon were content to rule the expanding Klarthur Confederacy through their Gherlachi servants, while the H’ran were directed to, initially, wage wars of expansion, and then to resist Imperial expansion where they could.
The Klarthur Confederacy has a Supreme Council which fixes Confederacy-wide policies upon the recommendation of the governments of the member states. While member states control their own internal affairs, the armed forces of the Confederacy are under a unified command, dominated by H'ran and assisted by Gherlach.
Member States of the Klarthur Confederacy
H'ran State | Synarchy of Gherlach |
Klarthur Nebula
An emission nebula located in Aemilor Subsector, the Klarthur Nebula lent its image and name to the Klarthur Confederacy.
Klonmetal Industries
Klonmetal Industries in a multi-system heavy industrial corporation and a subsidiary of the megacorporation Lithia B.S.P. It has a major rolling mill and fabrication plant on Ventura and a forgehall and extrusion works in the orbital Harkyn-147 Industrial complex.
Kolin I Venuraski
Kolin Venuraski (478 - 550), Sector Duke of the Rimworlds 540 - 550. Head of a cadet branch of the House of Deneb, Kolin saw, early on, the possibilities for expansion into the Rimworlds. Through deft manoeuvring, Kolin succeeded in having himself appointed to head the Imperial Commission that considered the Scout Service reports on the Kaorin and Berimar’s Sceptre Subsectors. Shamelessly exploiting his position, Kolin was made Viceroy of the Rimworlds in 525. Pooling the resources of his immediate family, and tapping the fortunes of his cousins, Kolin organised the massed settlement of the Thurgandarn Subsector. Part of his success lay in his ability to recruit talented younger members of the other Houses Major of the Greater Deneb Sector and skilfully exploit their skills and resources to achieve his own great aim. In 540, the years of planning and toil paid off with the creation of the Sector Duchy of the Rimworlds and the investiture of Kolin Venuraski as its first Duke. Ten years later, Kolin’s driving ambition led to his downfall when he was killed on campaign in the Gazolan Subsector, killed, it is said, by a disgruntled gardener.
Laargashu-Sulluvhan Yards
A Celephais Naval Architecture and construction company. Established in 1015 by Honre Laargashu and Suliman hault-Sulluvhan, Laargashu-Sulluvhan Yards eventually grew to include five major slipways - Yards 17, 19, 22, 23, and 28. Laargashu-Sulluvhan Yards specialise in the design and construction of small starships in the 100 - 800 ton range. The Harrana Class 200 ton Far Trader, of which eight units were completed prior to the Kalar-Wi bombardment in 1104, has proved to be the company's most successful design class.
Languages
The base language of the Imperial Sector of the RimWorlds is Imperial Basic. Imperial Basic has diverged into a number of regional dialects which, while mutually intelligible, have developed local pronunciation and spelling conventions. Most Minor Races, both within and without Imperial space, have retained their own local languages. Most Travellers will speak at least two languages and be able to understand several more, as well as recognise planet of origin for several dialects.
Aerrghvi: Dialect of Gvegh, one of the major Vargr language groups, spoken by the Vargr mercenary clan settled on Lo-Taisang/Cabria and who trade regularly along the Miazan Main.
Arkord: Native language of the primitive humanoid Arkordi Minor Race of Syndon IV/Gamelea.
Arrghoun: Ancient Vargr language, spoken by Vargr of the Hunt of Rronurl, indicating that their ancestors left the Vargr Extents some 2,000 years ago.
Cassingal: Dialect of Gazolin Imperial Basic, Cassingal has spread over the coreward border of Gamelea Subsector and is spoken on all the worlds of the Julnar Reach - Tulvan, Julnar, Leminkainen, and Ouron, Finduil and Por'via in the Lymethius Subsector. Gamelea Imperial Basic speakers and Cassingal speakers can understand each other, though quietly laugh at each other’s accents and spelling conventions.
Dwerk: Dominant language of the Gdemiar Minor Race of Naird/Cabria.
Fahlok: Dominant language of the Ly-ly Minor Race of Gyvern’s World/Cabria.
Frat'k: Common percussive language used by the Deep Space dwelling Anghorn Minor Race.
Gamelea Imperial Basic: Dialect of Imperial Basic spoken in the Gamelea Cluster (Kalath, Feor, Vanvlack VII, Gamelea and Ventura), and on Varch, Anthorann, Rimbaud II and Bryak. Both Anthorann and Bryak have strong local accents and the Anthorannis have picked up a lot of Vriok loan words after some 70 years of Kalar-Wi rule. Gamelea Basic is also spoken on Celephais, Byer's Planet and Naltor in Miazan Subsector.
Gazuli Imperial Basic: Dialect of Imperial Basic spoken along the Gazul Run, and on Daxam, Kasimir and Kothgar in the Gazul Subsector.
Igzgal: Vargr dialect spoken by the Vargr mercenary clan settled on Tonivar/Cabria and who trade regularly along the Miazan Main.

Maranth, Deserai
Deserai Maranth (662 - 724) was born on the Maranth Estate at Blershair, Daltharmai/Daltharmai. A cousin and companion of Sector-Duke Morthar III (the Weak), Deserai attended the University of Daltharmai where he studied Law and Political Science. After an eight year stint in the Daltharmai Subsector Navy, Deserai was appointed to the Sector-Ducal Advisory committee in 693. This was at the height of the Riinu Emergency with the Klarthur Confederacy. Deserai watched with horror as Sector-Duke Morthar dithered and fumbled, distracted from what was happening in Riinu Subsector by the feud between his wife, Duchess Iris, and his mistress, Elene hault-Tybior. When a disgraceful peace was finally secured with the Klarthur Confederacy, Deserai ran afoul of Elene hault-Tybior and was summarily sacked and exiled.
After nursing his grievances in exile for three years, Deserai returned to Daltharmai and quietly gathered a cabal of disgruntled officers and bureaucrats about him. In 699 he lead a palace coup and personally executed Sector-Duke Morthar III, claiming the Sector-Ducal Throne by Right of Assassination. Ascending the throne, Deserai took the regal name of his uncle, who had resisted the Klarthur Confederacy, and reigned as Neal Zuro II until his death in battle against the Confederacy in 724.

Marine Expeditionary Units rotate their ready status between “Standby 1” Condition – all component elements are aboard transport ships and the transports are ready to Jump within the hour – and “Standby 24” Condition – all component elements are on base and can be aboard their transports and ready to Jump within 24 hours. “Standby 12” Condition is often observed during times of heightened political tension. Units currently not assigned to a MEU are usually involved in training, or the Infantry elements are assigned as Ships’ Troops or as security for bases or officials (“dry” targets or “wet” targets in Marine parlance).
The 895th Marine Regiment, stationed at Varch, has one battalion deployed as part of the Imperial Occupation Force in the Kalar-Wi system. Currently tasked with garrisoning Kalar-Wi Highport, the 895th's part in the OFOR-KW deployment is scheduled to end in 1110. With one battalion on garrison duty, and a battalion commitment to 21st Marine Expeditionary Unit, unit rotations have been lengthened to accommodate the extra demand on manpower. 1204th marine regiment, stationed at Ventura, is under similar pressure as it is required to maintain a battalion deployment at Canblyne, as well as a battalion commitment to 24th MEU. Fleet Marine Force Command Gamelea Subsector is pressing both 297th Fleet Command at Gamelea, and Fleet Marine Force Command RimWorlds (FMFCRw) at Thiroor/Gazolan to be allowed to recruit a fourth battalion for each of the four Marine Regiments deployed in Gamelea Subsector to shorten rotations and improve morale.
For Jump capable transport, Marine Expeditionary Forces rely upon Imperial Navy transports, for moving ground units, and Light Carriers for moving COACC elements. Each Marine Expeditionary Force is usually assigned a Sector Navy Task Force as an escort, or will be attached to a Sector Navy Fleet. All COACC vessels are crewed by Marine crews and fall under the command of the Force Commander, Marine Expeditionary Unit. The Lift Units of 3rd Group, 97121st COACC Wing are assigned to MEUs as and when they require heavy lift for armour deployment.

Medina Yards
A subsidiary of Varion-Medina Holdings, and one of the largest starship construction and servicing Yards in the Gamelea/Gamelea system. The Medina family opened Slip 7, designing and building small craft, in 983. When the Klorin Asteroid War broke out in 1022, the Medinas managed to secure several lucrative Navy contracts which effectively made the company. Three more slips were established and then these were incorporated into Yard 54. Yard 54 was damaged in 1035, during the 3rd Outrim War, and it was only an alliance with the powerful House Minor Varion that secured enough liquidity for the Medinas to reopen Yard 54 and catch the wave of post-war reconstruction. While Varion-Medina Holdings owns Medina Yards (incorporating Yards 23, 54, 55 and 91), the Medina family still manages the day-to-day running of the facilities.

Some five hundred Kamperelian business people, their families, and their employees perished in the violence. Within a month, First Minister Torvor Van Zaquerl of Kamperel had dispatched six cruisers to Ektra which proceeded to saturate bomb strategic facilities until Ektra surrendered. Kamperel then annexed and occupied Ektra.
Nolgor Run
The Nolgor Run is a band of stars lining the edge of the Perrsherrik Rift and stretching across Nolgor Subsector to include Gilanda and Canblyne at the Trailing edge of Gamelea Subsector.
Nolgor Subsector
A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'L' position on Imperial sector maps. Imperial control of Nolgor Subsector has been in decline since the 4th Outrim War of 1080 - 85. Nolgor Subsector Naval Units were drawn off to the fighting in Gamelea and Miazan subsectors where they suffered heavy losses. In the post-war period, the Zoni of Lur/Nolgor and then the Siridar-Counts of Naos VI have successfully defied the Subsector Dukes of Nolgor.
Nolgor Subsector consists of 20 systems. Weak and divided, only 14 systems are under Imperial control. The Hegemony of Lotarf, controlling Lotarf, Shenn and Thrisk; the Zoni of Lur; and the Voivodate of Naos VI, controlling Naos VI and Sleipner, effectively divide the subsector in two. With a total subsector population of 9.87 billion sophonts, of which less than 0.5% are non-Human, 135.5 million are Imperial citizens; 156.2 million are subjects of the Hegemony of Lotarf; 34.5 million are estimated to inhabit Lur; and 9.5 billion dwell within the borders of the Voivodate of Naos VI.
The highest Tech Level in the subsector, Tech Level E (14), is at Meklin, while the most densely populated planet is Naos VI. Lotarf, with a population of 107 million, is the next most populous planet. Zovanta and Kuan-Ti are Red Zones, Zovanta on account of its primitive inhabitants and Kuan-Ti as it has been incompletely explored. Tarkos IV is an Imperial Prison Planet.
Odinexports, LIC
A subsidiary of the megacorporation A.K.I. Interstellar, Odinexports, LIC is a trading company, specialising in the sales and marketing of Odinite and Odinite products. Odinexports, LIC is a partner in Ventura Interstellar Mercantile.
Odinite
Valuable metal used in the construction of tube liners for Jump Drives. Tulvan/Gamelea was a rich source of Odinite until the mines paid out in the mid-1070's. Ventura/Gamelea swiftly replaced Tulvan as the primary source of this metal, though Odinventox established a large mining and processing facility on Janda/Miazan in the 1080's.
Odinventox
Large mining megacorporation, mainly concerned with the mining and extraction of Odinite. Based on Ventura/Gamelea.
Olkathi
The Olkathi are a Minor Race and the native inhabitants of the desert world of Golus/Miazan. Standing approximately 2.2 metres tall on average, these thin humanoids are adapted to life on a dry, low gravity world. Nictitating eyelids, and other physical adaptations, such as nostril flaps, keep moisture loss to minimum, and the Olkathi tend to wear voluminous robes and wraps to further insulate themselves against the heat of day and the cold of night. All Olkathi have an extra digit on each extremity.
The Olkathi live in clan groups that migrate from water source to water source across the desert. Each clan has its line of water traps and secret storage reservoirs and by frequently moving they reduce pressure on individual sites. Each clan wears platted cords about the waist, dyed in the colours of the clan.
A naturally curious folk, the Olkathi tend to regard off-worlders with a little awe, especially the technology that they bring, as the Olkathi had only developed to Tech Level 3 when contacted by Imperial Scouts. The Olkathi will happily use higher technological devices, if they understand their purpose, but generally don’t covert them, preferring technology they can manufacture and repair themselves.
Honesty and fair dealing, even to those not of the clan, are values intrinsic to Olkathi culture. But, if they find they have been fooled or, otherwise tricked, either as individuals or as a clan, Olkathi will become intensely hostile and endeavour to track the miscreant down in order to enact a suitable revenge.
Water is an extremely precious commodity to Olkathi. ‘Water Friend’ is a title indicating that the recipient is considered a member of the bestowing clan and is treated as such, including being given the locations of the clan’s water caches. Someone who intentionally wastes water or damages a water cache is considered mentally deranged and a danger to all Olkathi clans.
As there is so little water in their environment, Olkathi who have the opportunity to consume more water than usual will sometimes become 'water drunk'. In this condition, Olkathi will act irrationally, ignoring survival instincts, before ultimately passing out.
Olkathi cannot interpret maps or pictures (either stills or video) as they lack the necessary cultural references to interpret what they are seeing. They can, and do, make representations of journeys in the form of linear narratives, called ‘sand maps’, that, through a series of pictograms, show the landmarks one would see on a particular path.
O.M.D., LIC
Olkathi Mineral Developments, or OMD, LIC, is a relatively new mining and processing company based on Golus/Miazan. OMD, LIC was the brainchild of Jal Kauii and Narnua Taspa who, with the cooperation of the Yassus'shi sept of the Jappur'nio Olkathi clan, managed to secure mineral exploration rights to extensive territories in the equitorial desert region of Golus.

Outrim Alliance
An alliance of at least seven small, non-Imperial Interstellar Polities lying to Spinward of Gamelea and Miazan Subsectors in Per Vulia, Entorth, Lymethius and Cabria Subsectors. Coalescing as an alliance during the late 8th Century, the disparate states of the Outworld Alliance were united in their opposition to Imperial expansion to Spinward. While membership has fluctuated over the course of two and a half centuries, the current alliance consists of: the Geithurian Republic; Huiha Esoyatre; Hand of Ssra'Ka Aissr; Khedivate of Nutharal; Huiha Khysokhou; Hunt of Rronurl; and the Johdari Association.
Initial skirmishes along the Spinward-Rimward frontier of Daltharmai Subsector led to a state of undeclared war as Imperial colonists moved into the Trailing end of the Tallu Cluster in Lymethius Subsector. During the 2nd Rimward War of 793 - 794, Sector Duke Liarb I launched a series of reprisal raids against the Geithurian Republic which galvanized that state to ally with the neighboring Aslan of the Huiha Esoyatre. Following the end of the Rimward War, Sector Duke Liarb II sought to pacify the Geithurians with a rapid campaign of deep Cruiser strikes against their trade and starport facilities. Unfortunately for Liarb II, the Ko of Huiha Esoyatre had been actively recruiting allies from amongst the scattered minor polities to Spinward and these responded to the Imperial raids with overwhelming force. Duke Liarb II's death in a skirmish in the outer system of Anar in 810 resulted in a temporary peace that lasted for over a century as the Imperial Sector Government became distracted by its own internal upheavals.
By the early 10th Century, the Imperium began to push into Lymethius Subsector again, only to find that the Outrim Alliance was still firmly opposed to their expansion. A series of four wars fought between 925 and 1085 have resulted in stalemate, with the political borders essentially unchanged. A Black War run against the Geithurian Republic by Siridar-Lord Elmar Hendrian, Head of Imperial Intelligence under Sector Duke Kanus II, during the decade prior to the outbreak of the 4th Outrim War in 1080 effectively paralyzed the Republic politically for nearly twenty years after the Battle of Anthorann and the end of the war in 1085.
Since the end of the Kalar-Wi War in 1105, and the accession of Konzevr Ashtebr Edlchtel of Appaer/Lymethius as President of the Geithurian Republic, the Outrim Alliance has shown increasing signs of a resurgence. This development is beginning to worry Imperial Officials, especially as relationships with the Kalar-Wi, who were instrumental in the military defeat of the Outrim Alliance at the end of the 4th Outrim War, are still at a low ebb.
Member States of the Outrim Alliance:
Outrim Barbarians
Term applied to sophonts outside the Imperial border, with the implication that they are somewhat inferior to sophonts within the Imperial border.
Outrim Wars
A series of four wars fought between the Imperium and the Outrim Alliance - a collection of polities scattered across the Per Vulia, Entorth, Lymethius and Cabria subsectors.
1st Outrim War 925 - 930
Imperial expansion into the Lymethius Subsector was checked by the Geithurian Republic and the Huiha Esoyatre. During the heavy fighting that followed, the planetary ecosystem of Nearo/Lymethius was heavily damaged by the indiscriminate use of nuclear and biological weapons. Sector Duke Leonid II was killed during the Battle of Jul'ni in 929. His death threw Imperial plans into confusion and his son, Leonid III, was forced to accept a hastily negotiated peace as the Sector Fleet became more unruly.
3rd Outrim War 1025 - 1038
The colonisation of Auru/Cabria in 1007 was probably the seed from which the 3rd Outrim War grew. Watching with alarm as Imperial expansion, beaten back in two previous wars, continued into the Lymethius subsector, as well as expansion by the Imperial Client State of Kalar-Wi/Gamelea into the Cabria subsector, the Outrim Alliance reformed in 1012. Relations between the Alliance and the Imperium deteriorated during the reign of Sector Duke Mah’radys I Geyukthi (reigned 1015 – 1023) as the Outrim Alliance embarked on a massive shipbuilding programme. The implied threat to Imperial colonies along the border could not be ignored and Duke Mah’radys began rearming the fortress worlds and restricting the passage of Outrim merchant ships through the border zone.
In 1023, while on a state visit to the newly settled colony world of Auru/Cabria, Sector Duke Mah’radys I was killed when the Auru Highport facility suffered a cataclysmic depressurisation. Investigations by Imperial Naval Intelligence concluded that Auru Highport had been sabotaged by agents of the Geithurian Republic, one of the main powers of the Outrim Alliance.
As Mah’lyndairan succeeded his father as Sector Duke, events were already spiralling out of control. Raids and counter raids flared up along the border, with the Kalar-Wi systems of Loa-Wi/Cabria and Masaad/Lymethius being hit several times in quick succession. In mid-1024, Kalar-Wi units out of Gaidon/Cabria and Loa-Wi seized the Sword World mining colony of Gyffd/Cabria. The Huiha Esoyatre then moved to honour its treaty with Gyffd by seizing the Kalar-Wi colony of Kidan/Lymethius and shifting fleet elements into Desdeor/Lymethius while the Geithurian Republic moved ships into Coroson. These covered a concentration of Outrim Alliance ships gathering at Jul’ni/Lymethius.
At the beginning of 1025, ships from the Khedivate of Nutharal and the Hand of Ssra’ka Aissr attacked the Imperial border world of Lo Taisang. As the Vargr colonists began to give ground around Lo Taisang, the first Miazan Subsector Navy squadrons under Fleet Admiral/Miazan Kou’lmairn Geyukthi jumped insystem and the 3rd Outrim War officially began.
At the 1st Battle of Anar the main squadrons of the Gamelea Subsector Navy were routed by a Geithurian/Johdari Association battlefleet. Siridar-Duke Tolarman Juharl-Zarquestuir of Gamelea was killed as his squadron attempted to jump outsystem.
With Anar/Lymethius under siege, Geithurian and Johdari cruiser units broke through into Gamelea subsector, raiding systems and disrupting trade. Meanwhile, Huiha Esoyatre forces were involved in heavy fighting in the Loa-Wi and Masaad systems while Khedivate and Hand forces, reinforced by Hunt of Rronurl corsairs, swept into the Miazan subsector.
Over the next five years, the front line swayed back and forth. The Outrim Alliance lacked the ground troops to seize more than a handful of low population worlds and the Imperial Sector forces were too few in number to hold more than a couple of Outrim systems. Sector Duke Mah’lyndairan was killed in 1029 in a skirmish off Tonivar/Cabria and his son, Mah’radys II, was killed in 1030 at the 2nd Battle of Anar. Mah’radys’ brother, Mah’dainraian II, exploited the victory Mah’radys had paid such a price for by driving deep into Geithurian space. At the Battle of Lysarnor, late in 1030, Mah’dainraian’s bold move came to grief. Surrounded and low on fuel, Mah’dainraian’s fleet was destroyed.
Mah’dainraian’s son succeeded as Sector Duke Mah’dainraian III and was soon involved in shoring up the situation in Miazan Subsector. Fleet Admiral/Miazan Kou’lmairn Geyukthi had drawn in reserves from Gazul and Nolgor subsectors and had smashed the Hunt of Rronurl fleet at Suarya/Cabria in 1030. Pressing on, Admiral Geyukthi attacked Nutharal/Cabria and then Par Vera. At Par Vera, the Hand of Ssra’ka Aissr’s main battle fleet was waiting. Badly beaten, Admiral Geyukthi fell back on Gyvern’s World where, early 1031, his fleet was destroyed. With the loss of most of the Miazan subsector fleet, plus the reserves, Miazan subsector lay open to the inevitable counter attack from the Outrim. Miazan was besieged and Sector Duke Mah’dainraian III died in the ruins of his palace.
Yuri Sehlemarl, Admiral in Command of Celephais/Miazan, was elected Sector Duke as news of Mah'dainraian's death spread. A cousin of the Geyukthis, and a competent commander, to him fell the task of finishing the war. Carefully husbanding his resources, he reinforced strong points and let the Outrim Alliance forces ravage at will. By tying down their fleets in costly sieges, such as at Gamelea, Celephais and Miazan, Admiral Sethlemarl was able to wear the enemy down to the point where peace was finally agreed in 1038. By then, the Geyukthis had faded as a political power as a cadet branch of the dynasty inherited the Siridar-Duchy of Miazan.
4th Outrim War 1080 - 1085
The Fourth Outrim War was the last major conflict along the Spinward Frontier of Gamelea Subsector prior to the Kalar-Wi War of 1103 – 1105. Once again, Outrim Alliance fleets penetrated Imperial Space, wrecking havoc in the Jump Zones of lightly held Imperial worlds and, once again, Imperial and Subsector Task Forces stopped Alliance Fleets cold in the approaches to High Population worlds. Once again, Alliance Ground Forces were landed on individual Imperial worlds and, once again, they took Low Population worlds and were defeated on High Population worlds.
Konzevr Zdiea Edlchtel of Appaer/Lymethius, acting in his capacity as President of the Geithurian Republic, forced the war vote through the Republican Council in early 1080. In the months leading up to the war vote, Edlchtel and his advisors had become increasingly alarmed at reports from Republican Intelligence - Iqro' Zhdable. Iqro' Zhdable Section 4 (IZd 4) - Counter Intelligence - had noted the trending upwards of separatist actions and activities on various member worlds of the Republic. Investigations indicated possible Imperial Intelligence involvement as agents provocateurs or in providing material assistance and training. As the separatist movements gathered strength and sought to paralyse the Republic’s military forces, President Edlchtel felt driven to strike back against them and against their Imperial masters.
Assured of the support of the Esoyatreko Tlehiui V of Yuwe/Lymethius and of the Huiha Esoyatre, President Zdiea Edlchtel moved quickly to bring other member states of the Outrim Alliance into the impending war. While Huiha Khysokhou remained neutral in the ensuing conflict, the other members of the Alliance began to mobilise.
The deaths in quick succession of Imperial Sector Duke Kanus II and Duke Pahran of Gamelea in 1080 should have paralysed the Imperial defence as Alliance Fleets crossed the border but, in both cases, Imperial forces were much better prepared than had been predicted. This state of readiness was no accident. Sector Duke Kanus II and his Head of Imperial Intelligence, Siridar-Lord Elmar Hendrian of Pashur/Gazolan, had been actively working to neutralise the Geithurian Republic by encouraging the centrifugal political forces suppressed by President Zdiea Edlchtel to tear the Republic apart. Part of their planning factored in Edlchtel’s possible need for an external war to retain power, and to this end the bulk of the RimWorlds Imperial Naval units were already on-station in the Gamelea Subsector when war was declared.
Kanus’ death in 1080 on the eve of the war threw the Subsector Fleets into turmoil as various political factions began jockeying for influence with his uncle and successor, Edenar of Nolgor. Lord Elmar managed to keep Kanus’ plan on track by pulling squadrons into Gamelea Subsector from Gazul, Gazolan and Thurgandarn Subsectors but Duke Pahran’s death was a complication unplanned for. Fortunately, Lord Elmar’s brother, Duke Akansair of Thiroor/Gazolan, persuaded Duke Pahran’s son, Adryos Urzov, to move faster than required by protocol. Ordering the Gamelea Subsector Navy under his brother, Admiral Lord Talarman Juharl-Zarquestuir, into action, Adryos Urzov went personally to meet Duke Edenar’s Nolgor Subsector Fleet at Canblyne to urge them on towards the crucial first battlegrounds at Julnar.
Sector Duke Edenar was far more cautious and far less imaginative than his nephew, Kanus II, and so the war ground on with Imperial Forces grimly attempting to hold the border while Alliance raiders attempted to cut their supply lines. During this time, Lord Elmar continued his secret war in the Geithurian Republic, while trying to provide the intelligence that Sector Duke Edenar demanded, yet never paid any attention to. Elmar’s greatest coup of the war was the reactivation of the alliance with the Kalar-Wi, which had fallen away after the Klorin Asteroid War of 1022.
In 1085, Kalar-Wi Grand Admiral Odg’tal Alveuk led the Kalar-Wi Planetary Navy to a crushing victory over a predominantly Geithurian Republican fleet at Anthorann/Gamelea. The member governments of the Republic, sick of the war, promptly recalled President Zdiea Edlchtel’s Council and the Republic was effectively out of the war. Sector Duke Edenar’s Fleet Admiral Colleen von Aachol-Kalan-Salvan defeated an Outrim Alliance fleet at Gaidon/Cabria a month later and Admiral Chi’leur Baron Culvenia led the mopping up operation that chased the last of the raiders out of the Border Worlds by 1086.
Sakliavr Edlchtel became Konzevr of Appaer/Lymethius in late 1085 and President of the Geithurian Republic two years later, but his tenure as President was marred by a political malaise that threatened the collapse of the Republic.
Lord Elmar’s secessionists had struck deep roots amongst some of the populations of the Republic, roots that IZd 4 could not pull out. Such were the divisions in the Republican Council that when the Kalar-Wi War broke out in 1103, nearly twenty years later, the Republic took four months to issue a political position on the war, and then couched in such terms as to be mostly irrelevant. With the Geithurian Republic’s attention focussed inward, Huiha Esoyatre has assumed defacto leadership of the Outrim Alliance. Esoyatreko Tlehiui V of Yuwe/Lymethius, 79 in 1109, remains firmly in control of the Huiha but has shown little interest in managing the complex relationships within the larger Alliance.
Par Vera
0106 Par Vera/Cabria A-5869BA-E
Capital world of the Hand of Ssra'ka Aissr, a small, extra-Imperial stellar state in the Cabria and Entorth subsectors, populated almost exclusively by Tsalur. With the highest technology level in the Cabria subsector, Par Vera provides most of the warships used by its allies in the Outrim Alliance.
Par Vera Main
A constellation of 19 stars running Coreward along the Spinward border of Cabria Subsector from Wyern to Anoth, the Par Vera Main then bends Spinward into Entorth Subsector before terminating at Sh'tok/Entorth.
People's Justice Army
A revolutionary movement on Kamperel/Miazan that, with the support of the Outrim Alliance, overthrew House Rivokul and established a Republican government. The People's Revolutionary Army soon fell under the control of Torvor Van Zaquerl and his relatives and the Van Zaquerl family has remained in power on Kamperel, Ektra and Floranna by exercising this control to sweep away all their opponents.
Perrsherrik Rift
A J-3 Rift running 13 parsecs to Trailing from the Tallu Cluster in Lymethius Subsector to Lotarf/Nolgor. The Rift was first surveyed in Imperial times by Antoi Perrsherrik of the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service in the early 500's, though the Rift's existance had been known to Imperial Astronomers since the late 450's. It is believed that Perrsherrik may have discovered an old Thongaloros Empire period star map that allowed him to map the Thrisk - Lotarf crossing more quickly than expected.
Pervarli-Shengarn Shipping
Josias Pervarli and Megan Shengarn formed Pervarli-Shengarn Shipping at Miazan/Miazan in 1042. Servicing the smaller worlds along the Miazan Main, Pervarli-Shengarn acts as a feeder line for some of the larger shippers passing through Miazan itself. Jerla Khan is Cargo Master and Miazan Factor for Pervali-Shengarn.
Per Vulia Subsector
A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'I' position on Imperial sector maps. Per Vulia Subsector has never been explored by the Imperium. It is known to contain a number of small Interstellar states, and to have contributed to the Outrim Alliance.
Pilgrims
The Pilgrims are a religious sect whose major tenet is the giving up of worldly possessions and worldly cares to travel as the spirit moves them in search of their Arisen One. Pilgrims tend to travel in small groups or bands, working their way between worlds. Each band of Pilgrims will have a leader who is given the title Derbu, or Shepherd. Some Derbu will serve for a few months or a few years, while others will serve their bands for decades. Derbu Handark Zavtavol was unusual amongst Pilgrim leaders in that he encouraged his band to settle in the deep caverns of the airless world Omega Vasalai IX. In later times, his decision to settle was considered prescient as within a year of his Pilgrims’ arrival on Omega Vasalai IX, civil war engulfed the subsector, causing the collapse of interstellar trade and travel for nearly four decades.
Primeday
Main Shift. Work time on starships is usually measured in two shifts; Primeday or main shift; and Seconday or secondary shift. Transitions to and from Jump, and docking, undocking, landing and take-off are usually handled by the Primeday crew on larger ships, with a smaller watch crew handling general maintenance and service duties during Seconday.
Probability Cone
A Scan plotting device that extrapolates a ship's possible future locations from observed heading and acceleration. Also used to calculate firing solutions in ship-to-ship combat. Sometimes referred to as a p-cone, probability cones grow more inaccurate the further the target ship is away from the scanning ship.
Puranthea Malathu
Annual Kalar-Wi political-religious festival observed for a seven day from day 359 and recalling the birth of Malathu’kal Sourka, the first Warlord of Kalar-Wi who united the clans and turned them outwards into space. Traditionally a time when Kalar-Wi military units stand down and celebrate their lineage and battle honours.
Pyranus R.A.M, Inc
Pyranus Regional Armament Merchants Inc is a Ventura/Gamelea based company, trading in Tech Level 12 small-arms. While 70% owned by the government of Ventura, Pyranus R.A.M. is not exempt from government regulations restricting offworld weapons sales to the megacorporation Venturan Arms Technum. Pyranus R.A.M. supplies onplanet agencies with their firearms requirements, while subcontracting manufacturing capacity to Venturan Arms Technum as and when required.
Riinu Subsector
A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'B' position on Imperial sector maps. Only partially occupied by the Imperium, Riinu was lost to the Klarthu Confederacy, out of neighbouring Aemilor Subsector, during the reign of Sector Duke Morthar III in the 690's.
Rimbaud War
Intense war fought in the Rimbaud System/Gamelea Subsector from 1042 - 1044 between Kalar-Wi/Gamelea, nominally allied to the Imperium and the avian Rimbaur of Rimbaud II, an Imperial client world. The ecosystem of Rimbaud II was devastated in the conflict, with large sections of the planet still radioactive wasteland. The surviving Rimbaur population was forced to migrate to a few islands in the northern ocean. The direct threat of Imperial Intervention prevented the xenocide of the Rimbaur, but they had to endure seventy years of Kalar-Wi occupation until the Kalar-Wi were, in turn, defeated in the Kalar-Wi War of 1103 - 1105.
From the Kalar-Wi point of view, their intervention on behalf of one of two Rimbaur factions ended a bitter civil war that had already turned biological and which actually briefly went nuclear. Kalar-Wi was to continue to occupy Rimbaud II until 1105, and defeat at the end of the Kalar-Wi War. By this time, Kalar-Wi and Rimbaur Climatic Engineers had stabilised the shattered Rimbaud climate, and had even decontaminated small areas of the equatorial continent, though the bulk of the surviving on-planet Rimbaur population still dwelt in the high northern latitudes. In these settlements, some Rimbaur still waged a ‘war of liberation’ against the Kalar-Wi ‘oppressors’ until the end of the Kalar-Wi war in 1105.
The losing faction of the Rimbaud Civil War, defeated by the Kalar-Wi, fled en masse over the Imperial border, eventually settling in enclaves in the Geithurian Republic.
Rimward Coalition
An alliance of stellar states to Rimward of the Gazul and Miazan Subsectors, the Rimward Coalition first came into conflict with the Imperium during Sector Duke Kolin II’s campaign of expansion into the Gazul Subsector in the mid-500’s. A series of three major wars established the current border. While there has been peace between the Imperium and the Rimward Coalition for over a century, certain systems, such as Ftaioiaftew/Gazul, remain suspicious of all Imperial contacts.
Member States of the Rimward Coalition:
Rimward Deep
An area of Rift space running through the subsectors adjacent to the Rimward end of the RimWorlds Sector. The low stellar population eventually gives out into Intergalactic Space.
Rimward Wars
A series of three wars fought between the Imperium and the Rimward Coalition, principally in the Gazul and trailing Miazan Subsectors.
1st Rimward War 552 - 557
Sector Duke Kolin II Venuraski led the Imperial advance into the Gazul Subsector in person. The successes of the initial campaign were swiftly undone by flanking attacks by the Zoni of Lur/Nolgor and threats from the Huiha Weakhayuwikhye of Ftaioiaftew/Gazul. A second campaign was unsuccessful, and Duke Kolin II resumed full command for a third campaign in 556 - 557. A series of skirmishes culminated in the Battle of Gorth in 557 which broke the Rimward Coalition Fleet. Duke Kolin II was killed in action, though this was not revealed until after a Peace Treaty had been signed. The Rimward end of the Gazul Subsector was abandoned after Kolin's death.
2nd Rimward War 793 - 794
The accession of Sector Duke Liarb I Hikisaku of Gazul/Gazul in 768 once again focused Sector-Ducal attention on the tense and turbulent Rimward end of the Gazul Subsector. Liarb I spent the next twenty-five years of his life trying to keep the members of the Rimward Coalition divided and weak while bolstering Imperial and Gazul Subsector Naval forces along the frontier.
In 793 Liarb I suffered a stroke that was to prove mortal, just as a new Weakhayuwikhyeko came to power on Ftaioiaftew/Gazul. As Liarb lay dying, a Rimward Coalition fleet swarmed into the Imperial half of the subsector. Liarb’s son, Karthundal, assumed command of Imperial Forces and halted the Coalition fleet at Daxam/Gazul. A second Coalition thrust through Kalkor II was finally stopped at Anubis/Gazul. Karthundal quickly shifted reinforcements to Veda and launched an attack on Korbal while sending his long-range cruisers to hit Arnak. With their supply bases under threat, the Coalition fleet fell back on Dathyna. Gathering his forces, Karthundal struck hard and in the Battle of Dathyna destroyed the Rimward Coalition fleet as a fighting unit. Sector Duke Karthundal perished at Dathyna when his flagship was lost with all hands. It fell to Sector Duke Liarb II Crensea, known as ‘the Peacemaker’, to establish the Demilitarised Zone and peace treaty that concluded the war.
Rimworlds Sector
A sixteen subsector region of space in the Veil. The Rimworlds Sector consists of the following subsectors: Aemilor, Riinu, Kaorin, Berimar's Sceptre, Nantarn, Daltharmai, Gazolan, Thurgandarn, Per Vulia, Lymethius, Gamelea, Nolgor, Entorth, Cabria, Miazan and Gazul.
Only approximately half of the sector is currently under Imperial control, with the current sector capital at Thiroor/Gazolan. Duke Akansair II of Thiroor became Sector Duke in 1107.
Established as an Imperial Sector in 540, the Rimworlds has always been a turbulent region of space and Imperial control has never extended over the entire sector.
Following the Survey of 1089 by the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service and the Grand Census of 1090 by the Sector Ministry of Economic Development, the following statistics have been released:
Total population of the six subsectors surveyed: 486.6 billion sophants of which 163.65 billion (or 33.63%) are Imperial citizens and 322.95 billion (or 66.37%) are Non-Imperial.

Rivokul War
House Rivokul, as retainers of the Geyukthi Dukes of Miazan Subsector, had been Siridar-Barons of Kamperel/Miazan since the middle of the 10th Century. Outrageously corrupt, they had mercilessly exploited the huge population of their small, poor world. While the 3rd Outrim War was at its height, clandestine shipments of arms from the Outrim Alliance began reaching the People’s Justice Army of Kamperel. For eighteen months in 1031 – 32 the People’s Justice Army took on House Rivokul’s brutal mercenary guardsmen, fighting for control of the factories and tower blocks. A young Torvor Van Zaquerl, barely nineteen years old, personally led a team that penetrated House Rivokul’s fortress-palace where the entire family, and their retainers, were summarily executed.
By the time Sector Duke Yuri Sehlemarl had concluded the 3rd Outrim War in 1038, a republican government headed by Torvor Van Zaquerl was firmly established on Kamperel. As most of House Geyukthi, who had supported House Rivokul, or at least turned a blind eye to their misdeeds, had perished in the Outrim War, there was little political will to overturn the new administration on Kamperel, provided it remained loyal to the Imperium and its appointed representative, the Sector Duke.
Sarkul Wars
A series of internecine conflicts between 842 and 906 that brought about the near collapse of the RimWorlds Sector.
Historians have tended to blame the malignant influence of Lissa Sarkul, Principle Secretary to Sector Duke Neal Zuro III (reigned 810 – 842), for both the origins of this series of civil wars and for their length and bitterness.
When Neal Zuro III succeeded his father, Liarb II, in 810, he brought in a new administration that was tasked with ‘strengthening both the Sector Duchy and the office of the Sector Duke’. Lissa Sarkul, who had been Neal Zuro’s Private Secretary (and, it is rumoured, his lover) while he had been Siridar-Count of Daxam, was promoted to Principle Secretary and suddenly found herself one of the foci of power politics in the Sector Ducal court.
Neal Zuro was long of the opinion that control of the Subsector Navies needed to be exercised by the Sector Duke to both ensure adequate resources were allocated to any threatened frontier district, and to prevent the Subsector Dukes from indulging in armed feuds which dissipated the strength of the Sector. Lissa Sarkul whole-heartedly supported him in this, and the ensuing power struggle that resulted between the Houses Major and the Sector Duchy. Neal Zuro’s opponents chose to paint his policies as a revival of the two hundred year old Charterist Policies of Sector Duke Dentian I, as this was guaranteed to stir up the opposition of the Planetary Governments. Against fierce opposition in the Council of Nobles, Neal Zuro III and Lissa Sarkul pushed ahead, forcefully installing partisans loyal to the new administration in positions of command authority against the objections of the Houses Major.
The 841 mutinies by elements of the Gazolan and Thurgandarn Subsector Navies and the death of Neal Zuro III in 842 precipitated a crisis that Sarkul attempted to defuse by encouraging Sector Admiral Aras Stranman to accept the Sector Ducal crown. Instead of defusing the situation as Sarkul had hoped, Stranman’s actions were seen by all factions as a declaration of war.
The subsequent civil war brought about economic collapse, both within the Imperial portion of the sector, as well as amongst its neighbours, which probably saved the RimWorlds sector from total dismemberment.
The successful campaigns of Leonid Trumer in the early 900s reunited the exhausted fragments of the Sector and slowly put it back on its feet again.

Sehlemarl, Arkuru
His Excellency Fleet Admiral/Miazan Arkuru I Sehlemarl (750 – 812), Governor of Celephais was born in Hospital D, Celephais Naval Base, Celephais/Miazan. His father, Admiral Sir Lanyard Sehlemarl, of House Minor Sehlemarl of Celephais, had served as Subsector Admiral/Miazan and Governor of the Miazan Subsector Military District for Siridar-Duke Hamur III of Gamelea until his death in 765.
Arkuru Sehlemarl joined the Miazan Subsector navy in 768 and rapidly rose to Flag Rank.
As the 2nd Rimward War broke out in 793, Arkuru was posted Fleet Admiral/Miazan. He rapidly assembled a strike force at Nakaya/Miazan while sending a squadron of his larger, and slower, ships on a tour along the Spinward Border of the subsector to overawe the polities of the Cabria Subsector.
In 794, as Sector Duke Karthundal launched his attacks on Korbal/Gazul and Arnak/Gazul, Admiral Arkuru Sehlemarl moved up through Epoch/Miazan to pin part of the Rimward Coalition’s force at Ftaioiaftew/Gazul. Arkuru managed to place tenders deep in the Ftaioiaftew System Oort Cloud and used these to keep his Cruiser squadrons resupplied as they harassed the Ftaioiaftew shipyards and in-system traffic.
In the aftermath of the Battle of Dathyna and the end of the war, Arkuru was active in protecting the Miazan Subsector borders against demobilised corsair bands and hunting out those that had attempted to establish themselves in the Epoch and Hydrot systems.
In 800, Sector Duke Liarb II appointed Arkuru Sehlemarl hereditary Governor of the Imperial Fortress World of Celephais/Miazan in recognition of his services in the 2nd Rimward War. This secured the transition of House Sethlemarl from House Minor to House Major status.

Srudarghis have a long, whip-like tail, ending in a sharp stinger. If they succeed in stinging a person, the victim will loose 2 END per combat round until loosing consciousness. The victim will continue to loose two characteristic points (either STR or DEX) per round until death, unless a medic can administer an anti-venom.
Srudarghis are popular in some circles as guard animals, though there are fairly restrictive regulations regarding their export from Nikon.

Settled by a Vargr mercenary unit that the Imperium paid off with land in 1090, the 830,000 inhabitants have been growing restless as their resentment of being forced into becoming miners has increased. Parts of Tonivar were attacked by Kalar-Wi forces during the Kalar-Wi War and a number of warrens were damaged or destroyed. The survivors of the small Kalar-Wi occupation force were repatriated after the defeat of the Kalar-Wi in 1105, though rumors persist that the Tonivargr massacred a number of Kalar-Wi and their Kiang allies after the Kalar-Wi surrender, but before Imperial authorities could completely take control of the situation. A large number of Kiang now live and work on Tonivar, mainly in menial or dangerous low status jobs, sending money home to their families on Gaidon/Cabria.
