[B]A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'D' position on Imperial sector maps. First explored and settled by the Imperium in the late 5th Century, Berimar's Sceptre is one of the oldest Imperial subsectors in the Sector. Berimar's Sceptre is a constellation of seven stars that, when viewed from the vantage of Deneb, vaguely resembles the sceptre of state of Grand Duchess Berimar Venuraski, an ancestor of Kolin Venuraski, first Sector Duke of the RimWorlds.
Booster Spice Precursor elements used in the manufacture of Booster Spice are extracted from the sap of a carbonaceous palm found in the equitorial forests of Lithia/Miazan, and from a plant cultivated on Huop/Miazan.
[C]A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'N' position on Imperial sector maps. Imperial settlement in Cabria Subsector has been limited to two systems just on the trailing edge of the subsector, and administered by the Duchy of Miazan/Miazan Subsector. The several petty Interstellar states known to exist in the Cabria Subsector are sometimes aligned with the Outrim Alliance though, more often than not, pursue their own policies. Cabria subsector contains twenty-seven worlds with a total population of 13.198 billion sophonts. The highest population, 9, is at Par Vera, Yuar and Gaidon, and the highest Tech Level, E, is at Par Vera.

Civil War Dentian I Venuraski succeeded Kolin II as Sector Duke upon the latter’s death at the Battle of Gorth in 557. Having won the 1st Rimward War, House Venuraski proceeded to lose the peace as Dentian attempted to enhance his own power and prestige by extending emergency powers granted for the duration of the war. By 590 Dentian had completely alienated most of the Houses Major and planetary governments of the Sector. The Emperor was petitioned directly and in 594 Dentian was forced to abdicate in favour of his cousin Frederich Zenartoria of Heriem/Thurgandarn. Discontent continued to grow, however, as Sector Duke Frederich failed to roll back Dentian’s Edicts, nor address other abuses that had plagued the closing years of Dentian’s reign. By 602 most of the few Imperial Navy units still stationed in the RimWorlds Sector had been withdrawn to the Spinward March and the 1st Frontier War with the Zhodani. This left behind the faction-ridden Subsector navies and the Sector Duchy on the brink of Civil War. Fighting broke out in Nolgor Subsector between the Zenatoria dominated Nolgor Subsector Navy and House Ulanor, Siridar-Counts of Nolgor. Initially, the Nolgor Planetary Navy suffered heavy losses, but the tenacious resistance led by Siridar-Count Alban caught Admiral Stefan Zenatoria by surprise. With support from Naos VI and the House Tressuiir Dukes of Gamelea, the Ulanorian forces smashed the Zenatorians in battles at Nikon/Nolgor and Kalath/Gamelea. Sector-Duke Frederich was assassinated on 021-603 and was succeeded by his nephew Dentian II. Fighting now spread across the Sector with the bulk of the Rimward Subsectors allied against the Zenartorians. Dentian’s forces held Gazolan, Berimar’s Sceptre and part of Thurgandarn Subsectors, while Venuraski Loyalists held out in Kaorin Subsector, Riinu Subsector and the Coreward-Spinward portion of Thurgandarn Subsector. In Daltharmai Subsector Morthar Maranth, Siridar-Duke of Daltharmai, swept all opposition before him but suffered a major defeat at Thiroor/Gazolan. In 608, after five years of mixed fortunes, the Rimward subsectors finally threw their support behind Siridar-Duke Morthar of Daltharmai. The Venuraski were put down and the Zenartorians driven back. With the loss of Berimar’s Sceptre Subsector in 609, Sector-Duke Dentian II lost his last supply line to the Spinward March. Besieged on Heriem/Thurgandarn in late 609, Dentian was killed during the ground assault in 610. With his death, Morthar Maranth was elected Sector-Duke by the acclamation of his troops and went on to reign for a further twenty-two years.

[D]A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'F' position on Imperial sector maps. Daltharmai Subsector has been under pressure from the Klarthu Confederacy, out of neighbouring Aemilor Subsector, since the late 7th Century. The rise of the Outrim Aliance in Lymethius and Cabria subsectors in the 10th Century exposed the Rimward frontier to further tensions.

[G]A constellation of six stars near the centre of the Gamelea Subsector which includes the technological and political capital of the subsector, Gamelea - a rosette system of unknown origin.
Gamelea Subsector The Gamelea subsector contains seventeen worlds with a total population of 142.717 billion sophonts. The highest population, A, is at Gamelea and Bryak, and the highest Tech Level, F, is at Julnar and Gamelea. Gazolan SubsectorA subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'G' position on Imperial sector maps. One of the more stable subsectors of the Imperial Rimworlds Sector, Gazolan suffered during the Sarkul Wars as the Sector Admirals manoeuvred against each other. House Hendrian of Thiroor/Gazolan began its rise under the Trumer Sector Dukes in the 10th Century and were instrumental in the successful conclusion of the 4th Outrim War of 1080 - 1085. This lead to the bestowing of the Sector Duchy upon Akansair Hendrian by Imperial Edict in 1097. Gazul Subsector A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'P' position on Imperial sector maps. Sector Duke Kolin II forced his way into the Gazul Subsector in the mid 6th Century and control of the subsector swayed back and forth between the over-stretched Sector Fleet and the badly organised Rimward Coalition for the next three centuries. The Gazul subsector contains twenty-six worlds with a total population of 68.9389 billion sophonts. The highest population, A, is at Dathyna, and the highest Tech Level, D, is at Axal, Gazul and Xudar.
Geithurian Republic While supposedly a democratic alliance, in reality the Council of the Geithurian Republic has been dominated by the Edlchtel Clan, hereditary Konzevrs of Appaer and Presidents of the Republic, for the last two centuries. Of Zhodani origin, the Edlchtels have driven the Outrim Alliance's opposition to Imperial expansion into Lymethius Subsector. A member state of the Outrim Alliance, the Geithurian Republic has taken part in four wars against the Imperium. Following the defeat that ended the 4th Outrim War in 1085 and the fall from power of Konzevr Zdiea Edlchtel, President of the Republic, the Republic has suffered from a series of internal political crises as various separatist movements have grown up on various member worlds. This has resulted in a certain degree of political paralysis and a softening of the Republic’s hard-line anti-Imperium stance. Khasikha, a Vilani dialect, is spoken as a native language by the inhabitants of Appaer/Lymethius and was subsequently adopted as the official language of the Geithurian Republic. The Geithurian Republic often deploys multi-race mercenary formations as part of their Ground Force Command. These formations are known as Murkhida Kargesu, or "Alien Legions".
Golus, Aldeed
[H]Fibrous extract from a small cactus-like plant found amongst the rocky outcrops of the deserts of Anubis/Gazul. When dried, the extract becomes leathery and is chewed to release the hallucinogenic alkaloids that are concentrated by the drying process.
H'ran While militarily successful, the H’ran State lacked the industrial base to construct its own starships and was on the verge of collapse when it overran the Gherlach, a much less aggressive but technology-savvy reptilian race. With the assistance of the Gherlach, the H'ran have remained the dominant species in the Klarthur Confederacy.

Hunt of Rronurl As Vargr-dominated states go, the Hunt of Rronurl has been remarkably stable, having achieved its current size during the early 800’s under the leadership of Rronurl, the original Huntleader. Its unity has been maintained under a series of charismatic Huntleaders, supported by able bureaucracies on most of its member worlds. The current Huntleader, Gvero II, achieved dominance over his uncle Gvero I in the aftermath of the failures of the Hunt’s forces during the Fourth Outrim War of 1080 – 85. In 1097 Aerknir saedz Ngaen seized control of Akhvooel as a popular dictator. A highly charismatic military commander during the Fourth Outrim War, he found the government of Akhvooel complacent and lacking in charisma upon his return from the front in 1085. A supporter of Huntleader Gvero II, Aerknir’s coup was supported by Hunt military units as well as a sizeable percentage of the population of Akhvooel. Since that time, the government of Akhvooel under Aerknir has been firmly aligned to that of Suarya, capital of the Hunt and homeworld of Huntleader Gvero II.
[I]The main spoken and written language of the Imperium, derived from Solomani Basic with Imperial Vilani loan words and grammatical borrowings. Due to the vast expanse of the Imperium, Imperial Basic has devolved into several regional dialects, each with a distinct accent, though all mutually understandable.

Julnar Cybernetics Inc Alarmed by the growth in power of Kalar-Wi after the Klorin Asteroid War of 1022, Julnar Cybernetics, in partnership with Ventura Arms Technum, and with the tacit approval of the Julnar System government, began building up a powerful corporate Special Weapons and Tactics Company. It is believed that this unit was instrumental in bringing the Rivokul War on Kamperel/Miazan to an end in 1032 by assisting the People's Justice Army bring down the despotic House Rivokul. In the wide spread rebuilding following the 4th Outrim War (1080 – 85), Julnar Cybernetics secured several lucrative subsector-wide contracts and has successfully built upon them. Varess S'sluru is the current President of Julnar Cybernetics, though the powerful Government Select Committee on Corporate Affairs, Governance, and Expenditure keeps a close watch on corporate policy.

Klarthur Confederacy After a series of conflicts in Riinu Subsector in the 690's, the Klarthur Confederacy pushed Imperial forces back into Kaorin Subsector where a stable border was established. This Imperial setback is usually blamed upon Sector Duke Morthar III, but the brief Civil War at the beginning of the 7th Century had already weakened Imperial control in the Sector. The dominant species in the Klarthur Confederacy is the H’ran, an aggressive bipedal reptilian race that were originally raised to sentience under the Thongaloros Empire. Serving as ground forces and shipboard marines for the Empire, the H’ran secured sufficient interstellar shipping during the collapse of the Thongaloros Empire to extend their sway over several systems in the Aemilor Subsector. The H’ran State was on the verge of collapse, as it lacked the industrial base to construct its own starships, when it overran the Gherlach, a much less aggressive but technology-savvy reptilian race. The Gherlach were assimilated into the H’ran State as a servitor-technician caste but, soon, the Gherlach began to dominate the councils of the H’ran. In contact with The Talon of Dra'kken, an isolated clan of Tsalur that had survived the collapse of the Thongaloros Empire, the Gherlach methodically took over the actual running of the H'ran State. The Talon were content to rule the expanding Klarthur Confederacy through their Gherlachi servants, while the H’ran were directed to, initially, wage wars of expansion, and then to resist Imperial expansion where they could. The Klarthur Confederacy has a Supreme Council which fixes Confederacy-wide policies upon the recommendation of the governments of the member states. While member states control their own internal affairs, the armed forces of the Confederacy are under a unified command, dominated by H'ran and assisted by Gherlach.

Lymethius Subsector The Lymethius subsector contains twenty-six worlds with a total population of 186.202 billion sophonts. The highest population, A, is at Appaer and Yuakteisye, and the highest Tech Level, C, is at Appaer, Yuwe and Tallu.
[M]Deserai Maranth (662 - 724) was born on the Maranth Estate at Blershair, Daltharmai/Daltharmai. A cousin and companion of Sector-Duke Morthar III (the Weak), Deserai attended the University of Daltharmai where he studied Law and Political Science. After an eight year stint in the Daltharmai Subsector Navy, Deserai was appointed to the Sector-Ducal Advisory committee in 693. This was at the height of the Riinu Emergency with the Klarthur Confederacy. Deserai watched with horror as Sector-Duke Morthar dithered and fumbled, distracted from what was happening in Riinu Subsector by the feud between his wife, Duchess Iris, and his mistress, Elene hault-Tybior. When a disgraceful peace was finally secured with the Klarthur Confederacy, Deserai ran afoul of Elene hault-Tybior and was summarily sacked and exiled. After nursing his grievances in exile for three years, Deserai returned to Daltharmai and quietly gathered a cabal of disgruntled officers and bureaucrats about him. In 699 he lead a palace coup and personally executed Sector-Duke Morthar III, claiming the Sector-Ducal Throne by Right of Assassination. Ascending the throne, Deserai took the regal name of his uncle, who had resisted the Klarthur Confederacy, and reigned as Neal Zuro II until his death in battle against the Confederacy in 724. MegacorporationsLarge financial and industrial companies and combines with influence felt on many worlds. In the Rimworlds Sector, in particular, Megacorporations have been instrumental in opening up many frontier planets to settlement. With their strong ties to many of the Houses Major, Megacorporations often wield immense political power.

Miazan Main A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'O' position on Imperial sector maps. First explored and settled by the Imperium in the late 7th Century, Miazan Subsector was governed as a military district under the authority of the Dukes of Gamelea. With the accession of Sector Duke Leonid I Trumer in 906, his son-in-law Chi'leur Geyukthi became the first Duke of Miazan. The Purvions of Lithia/Miazan and the Solomani of Kamperel/Miazan have never come under the authority of Miazan. The Miazan subsector contains seventeen worlds with a total population of 65.6777 billion sophonts. The highest population, A, is at Kamperel, and the highest Tech Level, D, is at Golus and Janda. Nolgor Run
Nolgor Subsector Nolgor Subsector consists of 20 systems. Weak and divided, only 14 systems are under Imperial control. The Hegemony of Lotarf, controlling Lotarf, Shenn and Thrisk; the Zoni of Lur; and the Voivodate of Naos VI, controlling Naos VI and Sleipner, effectively divide the subsector in two. With a total subsector population of 9.87 billion sophonts, of which less than 0.5% are non-Human, 135.5 million are Imperial citizens; 156.2 million are subjects of the Hegemony of Lotarf; 34.5 million are estimated to inhabit Lur; and 9.5 billion dwell within the borders of the Voivodate of Naos VI. The highest Tech Level in the subsector, Tech Level E (14), is at Meklin, while the most densely populated planet is Naos VI. Lotarf, with a population of 107 million, is the next most populous planet. Zovanta and Kuan-Ti are Red Zones, Zovanta on account of its primitive inhabitants and Kuan-Ti as it has been incompletely explored. Tarkos IV is an Imperial Prison Planet.
[O]Valuable metal used in the construction of tube liners for Jump Drives. Tulvan/Gamelea was a rich source of Odinite until the mines paid out in the mid-1070's. Ventura/Gamelea swiftly replaced Tulvan as the primary source of this metal, though Odinventox established a large mining and processing facility on Janda/Miazan in the 1080's.

Olkathi The Olkathi live in clan groups that migrate from water source to water source across the desert. Each clan has its line of water traps and secret storage reservoirs and by frequently moving they reduce pressure on individual sites. Each clan wears platted cords about the waist, dyed in the colours of the clan. A naturally curious folk, the Olkathi tend to regard off-worlders with a little awe, especially the technology that they bring, as the Olkathi had only developed to Tech Level 3 when contacted by Imperial Scouts. The Olkathi will happily use higher technological devices, if they understand their purpose, but generally don’t covert them, preferring technology they can manufacture and repair themselves. Honesty and fair dealing, even to those not of the clan, are values intrinsic to Olkathi culture. But, if they find they have been fooled or, otherwise tricked, either as individuals or as a clan, Olkathi will become intensely hostile and endeavour to track the miscreant down in order to enact a suitable revenge. Water is an extremely precious commodity to Olkathi. ‘Water Friend’ is a title indicating that the recipient is considered a member of the bestowing clan and is treated as such, including being given the locations of the clan’s water caches. Someone who intentionally wastes water or damages a water cache is considered mentally deranged and a danger to all Olkathi clans. As there is so little water in their environment, Olkathi who have the opportunity to consume more water than usual will sometimes become 'water drunk'. In this condition, Olkathi will act irrationally, ignoring survival instincts, before ultimately passing out.Olkathi cannot interpret maps or pictures (either stills or video) as they lack the necessary cultural references to interpret what they are seeing. They can, and do, make representations of journeys in the form of linear narratives, called ‘sand maps’, that, through a series of pictograms, show the landmarks one would see on a particular path.

1st Outrim War 925 - 930
3rd Outrim War 1025 - 1038 In 1023, while on a state visit to the newly settled colony world of Auru/Cabria, Sector Duke Mah’radys I was killed when the Auru Highport facility suffered a cataclysmic depressurisation. Investigations by Imperial Naval Intelligence concluded that Auru Highport had been sabotaged by agents of the Geithurian Republic, one of the main powers of the Outrim Alliance. As Mah’lyndairan succeeded his father as Sector Duke, events were already spiralling out of control. Raids and counter raids flared up along the border, with the Kalar-Wi systems of Loa-Wi/Cabria and Masaad/Lymethius being hit several times in quick succession. In mid-1024, Kalar-Wi units out of Gaidon/Cabria and Loa-Wi seized the Sword World mining colony of Gyffd/Cabria. The Huiha Esoyatre then moved to honour its treaty with Gyffd by seizing the Kalar-Wi colony of Kidan/Lymethius and shifting fleet elements into Desdeor/Lymethius while the Geithurian Republic moved ships into Coroson. These covered a concentration of Outrim Alliance ships gathering at Jul’ni/Lymethius. At the beginning of 1025, ships from the Khedivate of Nutharal and the Hand of Ssra’ka Aissr attacked the Imperial border world of Lo Taisang. As the Vargr colonists began to give ground around Lo Taisang, the first Miazan Subsector Navy squadrons under Fleet Admiral/Miazan Kou’lmairn Geyukthi jumped insystem and the 3rd Outrim War officially began. At the 1st Battle of Anar the main squadrons of the Gamelea Subsector Navy were routed by a Geithurian/Johdari Association battlefleet. Siridar-Duke Tolarman Juharl-Zarquestuir of Gamelea was killed as his squadron attempted to jump outsystem. With Anar/Lymethius under siege, Geithurian and Johdari cruiser units broke through into Gamelea subsector, raiding systems and disrupting trade. Meanwhile, Huiha Esoyatre forces were involved in heavy fighting in the Loa-Wi and Masaad systems while Khedivate and Hand forces, reinforced by Hunt of Rronurl corsairs, swept into the Miazan subsector. Over the next five years, the front line swayed back and forth. The Outrim Alliance lacked the ground troops to seize more than a handful of low population worlds and the Imperial Sector forces were too few in number to hold more than a couple of Outrim systems. Sector Duke Mah’lyndairan was killed in 1029 in a skirmish off Tonivar/Cabria and his son, Mah’radys II, was killed in 1030 at the 2nd Battle of Anar. Mah’radys’ brother, Mah’dainraian II, exploited the victory Mah’radys had paid such a price for by driving deep into Geithurian space. At the Battle of Lysarnor, late in 1030, Mah’dainraian’s bold move came to grief. Surrounded and low on fuel, Mah’dainraian’s fleet was destroyed. Mah’dainraian’s son succeeded as Sector Duke Mah’dainraian III and was soon involved in shoring up the situation in Miazan Subsector. Fleet Admiral/Miazan Kou’lmairn Geyukthi had drawn in reserves from Gazul and Nolgor subsectors and had smashed the Hunt of Rronurl fleet at Suarya/Cabria in 1030. Pressing on, Admiral Geyukthi attacked Nutharal/Cabria and then Par Vera. At Par Vera, the Hand of Ssra’ka Aissr’s main battle fleet was waiting. Badly beaten, Admiral Geyukthi fell back on Gyvern’s World where, early 1031, his fleet was destroyed. With the loss of most of the Miazan subsector fleet, plus the reserves, Miazan subsector lay open to the inevitable counter attack from the Outrim. Miazan was besieged and Sector Duke Mah’dainraian III died in the ruins of his palace. Yuri Sehlemarl, Admiral in Command of Celephais/Miazan, was elected Sector Duke as news of Mah'dainraian's death spread. A cousin of the Geyukthis, and a competent commander, to him fell the task of finishing the war. Carefully husbanding his resources, he reinforced strong points and let the Outrim Alliance forces ravage at will. By tying down their fleets in costly sieges, such as at Gamelea, Celephais and Miazan, Admiral Sethlemarl was able to wear the enemy down to the point where peace was finally agreed in 1038. By then, the Geyukthis had faded as a political power as a cadet branch of the dynasty inherited the Siridar-Duchy of Miazan.
4th Outrim War 1080 - 1085 Konzevr Zdiea Edlchtel of Appaer/Lymethius, acting in his capacity as President of the Geithurian Republic, forced the war vote through the Republican Council in early 1080. In the months leading up to the war vote, Edlchtel and his advisors had become increasingly alarmed at reports from Republican Intelligence - Iqro' Zhdable. Iqro' Zhdable Section 4 (IZd 4) - Counter Intelligence - had noted the trending upwards of separatist actions and activities on various member worlds of the Republic. Investigations indicated possible Imperial Intelligence involvement as agents provocateurs or in providing material assistance and training. As the separatist movements gathered strength and sought to paralyse the Republic’s military forces, President Edlchtel felt driven to strike back against them and against their Imperial masters. Assured of the support of the Esoyatreko Tlehiui V of Yuwe/Lymethius and of the Huiha Esoyatre, President Zdiea Edlchtel moved quickly to bring other member states of the Outrim Alliance into the impending war. While Huiha Khysokhou remained neutral in the ensuing conflict, the other members of the Alliance began to mobilise. The deaths in quick succession of Imperial Sector Duke Kanus II and Duke Pahran of Gamelea in 1080 should have paralysed the Imperial defence as Alliance Fleets crossed the border but, in both cases, Imperial forces were much better prepared than had been predicted. This state of readiness was no accident. Sector Duke Kanus II and his Head of Imperial Intelligence, Siridar-Lord Elmar Hendrian of Pashur/Gazolan, had been actively working to neutralise the Geithurian Republic by encouraging the centrifugal political forces suppressed by President Zdiea Edlchtel to tear the Republic apart. Part of their planning factored in Edlchtel’s possible need for an external war to retain power, and to this end the bulk of the RimWorlds Imperial Naval units were already on-station in the Gamelea Subsector when war was declared. Kanus’ death in 1080 on the eve of the war threw the Subsector Fleets into turmoil as various political factions began jockeying for influence with his uncle and successor, Edenar of Nolgor. Lord Elmar managed to keep Kanus’ plan on track by pulling squadrons into Gamelea Subsector from Gazul, Gazolan and Thurgandarn Subsectors but Duke Pahran’s death was a complication unplanned for. Fortunately, Lord Elmar’s brother, Duke Akansair of Thiroor/Gazolan, persuaded Duke Pahran’s son, Adryos Urzov, to move faster than required by protocol. Ordering the Gamelea Subsector Navy under his brother, Admiral Lord Talarman Juharl-Zarquestuir, into action, Adryos Urzov went personally to meet Duke Edenar’s Nolgor Subsector Fleet at Canblyne to urge them on towards the crucial first battlegrounds at Julnar. Sector Duke Edenar was far more cautious and far less imaginative than his nephew, Kanus II, and so the war ground on with Imperial Forces grimly attempting to hold the border while Alliance raiders attempted to cut their supply lines. During this time, Lord Elmar continued his secret war in the Geithurian Republic, while trying to provide the intelligence that Sector Duke Edenar demanded, yet never paid any attention to. Elmar’s greatest coup of the war was the reactivation of the alliance with the Kalar-Wi, which had fallen away after the Klorin Asteroid War of 1022. In 1085, Kalar-Wi Grand Admiral Odg’tal Alveuk led the Kalar-Wi Planetary Navy to a crushing victory over a predominantly Geithurian Republican fleet at Anthorann/Gamelea. The member governments of the Republic, sick of the war, promptly recalled President Zdiea Edlchtel’s Council and the Republic was effectively out of the war. Sector Duke Edenar’s Fleet Admiral Colleen von Aachol-Kalan-Salvan defeated an Outrim Alliance fleet at Gaidon/Cabria a month later and Admiral Chi’leur Baron Culvenia led the mopping up operation that chased the last of the raiders out of the Border Worlds by 1086. Sakliavr Edlchtel became Konzevr of Appaer/Lymethius in late 1085 and President of the Geithurian Republic two years later, but his tenure as President was marred by a political malaise that threatened the collapse of the Republic. Lord Elmar’s secessionists had struck deep roots amongst some of the populations of the Republic, roots that IZd 4 could not pull out. Such were the divisions in the Republican Council that when the Kalar-Wi War broke out in 1103, nearly twenty years later, the Republic took four months to issue a political position on the war, and then couched in such terms as to be mostly irrelevant. With the Geithurian Republic’s attention focussed inward, Huiha Esoyatre has assumed defacto leadership of the Outrim Alliance. Esoyatreko Tlehiui V of Yuwe/Lymethius, 79 in 1109, remains firmly in control of the Huiha but has shown little interest in managing the complex relationships within the larger Alliance.

[R]A subsector of the Rimworlds Sector occupying the 'B' position on Imperial sector maps. Only partially occupied by the Imperium, Riinu was lost to the Klarthu Confederacy, out of neighbouring Aemilor Subsector, during the reign of Sector Duke Morthar III in the 690's. Rimbaud War Intense war fought in the Rimbaud System/Gamelea Subsector from 1042 - 1044 between Kalar-Wi/Gamelea, nominally allied to the Imperium and the avian Rimbaur of Rimbaud II, an Imperial client world. The ecosystem of Rimbaud II was devastated in the conflict, with large sections of the planet still radioactive wasteland. The surviving Rimbaur population was forced to migrate to a few islands in the northern ocean. The direct threat of Imperial Intervention prevented the xenocide of the Rimbaur, but they had to endure seventy years of Kalar-Wi occupation until the Kalar-Wi were, in turn, defeated in the Kalar-Wi War of 1103 - 1105.

Liarb’s son, Karthundal, assumed command of Imperial Forces and halted the Coalition fleet at Daxam/Gazul. A second Coalition thrust through Kalkor II was finally stopped at Anubis/Gazul. Karthundal quickly shifted reinforcements to Veda and launched an attack on Korbal while sending his long-range cruisers to hit Arnak. With their supply bases under threat, the Coalition fleet fell back on Dathyna. Gathering his forces, Karthundal struck hard and in the Battle of Dathyna destroyed the Rimward Coalition fleet as a fighting unit. Sector Duke Karthundal perished at Dathyna when his flagship was lost with all hands. It fell to Sector Duke Liarb II Crensea, known as ‘the Peacemaker’, to establish the Demilitarised Zone and peace treaty that concluded the war. Rimworlds Sector
Only approximately half of the sector is currently under Imperial control, with the current sector capital at Thiroor/Gazolan. Duke Akansair II of Thiroor became Sector Duke in 1107. Established as an Imperial Sector in 540, the Rimworlds has always been a turbulent region of space and Imperial control has never extended over the entire sector. Following the Survey of 1089 by the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service and the Grand Census of 1090 by the Sector Ministry of Economic Development, the following statistics have been released: Total population of the six subsectors surveyed: 486.6 billion sophants of which 163.65 billion (or 33.63%) are Imperial citizens and 322.95 billion (or 66.37%) are Non-Imperial.
House Rivokul, as retainers of the Geyukthi Dukes of Miazan Subsector, had been Siridar-Barons of Kamperel/Miazan since the middle of the 10th Century. Outrageously corrupt, they had mercilessly exploited the huge population of their small, poor world. While the 3rd Outrim War was at its height, clandestine shipments of arms from the Outrim Alliance began reaching the People’s Justice Army of Kamperel. For eighteen months in 1031 – 32 the People’s Justice Army took on House Rivokul’s brutal mercenary guardsmen, fighting for control of the factories and tower blocks. A young Torvor Van Zaquerl, barely nineteen years old, personally led a team that penetrated House Rivokul’s fortress-palace where the entire family, and their retainers, were summarily executed. By the time Sector Duke Yuri Sehlemarl had concluded the 3rd Outrim War in 1038, a republican government headed by Torvor Van Zaquerl was firmly established on Kamperel. As most of House Geyukthi, who had supported House Rivokul, or at least turned a blind eye to their misdeeds, had perished in the Outrim War, there was little political will to overturn the new administration on Kamperel, provided it remained loyal to the Imperium and its appointed representative, the Sector Duke.
[S]A series of internecine conflicts between 842 and 906 that brought about the near collapse of the RimWorlds Sector. Historians have tended to blame the malignant influence of Lissa Sarkul, Principle Secretary to Sector Duke Neal Zuro III (reigned 810 – 842), for both the origins of this series of civil wars and for their length and bitterness. When Neal Zuro III succeeded his father, Liarb II, in 810, he brought in a new administration that was tasked with ‘strengthening both the Sector Duchy and the office of the Sector Duke’. Lissa Sarkul, who had been Neal Zuro’s Private Secretary (and, it is rumoured, his lover) while he had been Siridar-Count of Daxam, was promoted to Principle Secretary and suddenly found herself one of the foci of power politics in the Sector Ducal court. Neal Zuro was long of the opinion that control of the Subsector Navies needed to be exercised by the Sector Duke to both ensure adequate resources were allocated to any threatened frontier district, and to prevent the Subsector Dukes from indulging in armed feuds which dissipated the strength of the Sector. Lissa Sarkul whole-heartedly supported him in this, and the ensuing power struggle that resulted between the Houses Major and the Sector Duchy. Neal Zuro’s opponents chose to paint his policies as a revival of the two hundred year old Charterist Policies of Sector Duke Dentian I, as this was guaranteed to stir up the opposition of the Planetary Governments. Against fierce opposition in the Council of Nobles, Neal Zuro III and Lissa Sarkul pushed ahead, forcefully installing partisans loyal to the new administration in positions of command authority against the objections of the Houses Major. The 841 mutinies by elements of the Gazolan and Thurgandarn Subsector Navies and the death of Neal Zuro III in 842 precipitated a crisis that Sarkul attempted to defuse by encouraging Sector Admiral Aras Stranman to accept the Sector Ducal crown. Instead of defusing the situation as Sarkul had hoped, Stranman’s actions were seen by all factions as a declaration of war. The subsequent civil war brought about economic collapse, both within the Imperial portion of the sector, as well as amongst its neighbours, which probably saved the RimWorlds sector from total dismemberment. The successful campaigns of Leonid Trumer in the early 900s reunited the exhausted fragments of the Sector and slowly put it back on its feet again.

Sethlemarl, Arkuru Arkuru Sethlemarl joined the Miazan Subsector navy in 768 and rapidly rose to Flag Rank. As the 2nd Rimward War broke out in 793, Arkuru was posted Fleet Admiral/Miazan. He rapidly assembled a strike force at Nakaya/Miazan while sending a squadron of his larger, and slower, ships on a tour along the Spinward Border of the subsector to overawe the polities of the Cabria Subsector. In 794, as Sector Duke Karthundal launched his attacks on Korbal/Gazul and Arnak/Gazul, Admiral Arkuru Sethlemarl moved up through Epoch/Miazan to pin part of the Rimward Coalition’s force at Ftaioiaftew/Gazul. Arkuru managed to place tenders deep in the Ftaioiaftew System Oort Cloud and used these to keep his Cruiser squadrons resupplied as they harassed the Ftaioiaftew shipyards and in-system traffic. In the aftermath of the Battle of Dathyna and the end of the war, Arkuru was active in protecting the Miazan Subsector borders against demobilised corsair bands and hunting out those that had attempted to establish themselves in the Epoch and Hydrot systems. In 800, Sector Duke Liarb II appointed Arkuru Sethlemarl hereditary Governor of the Imperial Fortress World of Celephais/Miazan in recognition of his services in the 2nd Rimward War. This secured the transition of House Sethlemarl from House Minor to House Major status.
